Michel, i can tell you now that the caliper is either sticking or the pads have siezed in the caliper carrier. Trust me, been there. Have a look at the disc if the edge is tinged a reddy/orange colour then thats what it is. Compare the two discs and i bet you the drivers side is more orangy(?)

I must admit that the discs look the same to me, but I am no expert in these matters. The edge nearest the hub is a 'rusty colour' but its only a very narrow band and the rest is 'clean metal'.

I haven't really be able to check the inboard side of the disc . Is it possible that only this side is the problem?
      I'll have another look.

      Thanks.

If you jack the car up, i suspect that one side is dragging slightly.

If its going for a service just tell them to investigate it. Im sure that they can find it.

Well I haven't got round to sorting out my noise and it has got worse. So does anyone have the actual dimensions of the bearing as I reckon I might get a better deal from a local bearing place than GSF or Euro Carparts. They list a couple of 'audi bearings at 82mm. I know its 82mm outer but waht is the inner and I belive it is stepped?

          Cheers

Your right, it is stepped but i dont know the dimensions. I cant take it apart to find out as this would destroy the bearing!!

            sorry

              Cheers Tom

They only do one 82mm audi bearing that is stepped to I guess that must be it. Its only a very small step on the internal diameter 45/43mm does that sound about right?

Yeah that sounds about right, it wasn't a huge step but enough to make it fook up if you put in round the wrong way!!

                Good luck mate.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you guys sooner.
Seems my weird noise was the blanking plate behind the disc rubbing on it.
It had been bent enough to gently rub against it. No surprises if it is so but the number of bumps, curbs etc I have to navigate daily thro London.

Certainly the noise has gone and judging by the price of the MOT, service and replacing the ignition switch they haven't tried charging me for anyhting els.
Cetainly didn't say anything at the time.

When I went to AmD to pick the car up they had the TT (cough splutter) Owners Club in for a visit. What ever yoy tihkn of the car it has a pretty passionate following.

They seemed almost as extreme as some people on this board in getting every last ounce of performance etc from their car.

But then its not a 'proper' Audi......

Good to hear it was an easy cheap fix

Real Audi's have 5 cylinders with real Quattro just don't say that to them! oh, and cost a packet to run

Local bearing supplier wants £60 for an SKF bearing so I think it is off to GSF!
