    Value - RS2 Steering Rack

I'm considering upgrading the steering rack on the RS2 and wondered what the OEM one might be worth second hand. Very good condition and 80,000 miles.

    Any suggestions?

Well, open to alternatives, but this one caught my eye.

Current rack gearing is slow to say the least.

Wonder if existing one can be refurbished locally for a different ratio for less?

if i am not mistaken, our cars do have this steering rack already. It says 2.5 turns from side to side.I havent checked recently but i think that is what the rs2 rack does. It appears that many US audis came with wider range of movement, but not in europe. So its not an upgrade. There was a forum member that had explained that to me a long time ago when i was concidering the same.

Really? Well that's on the list to check tomorrow then. Would really like a faster rack.

As A80avant says, S2 and RS2 share the same rack.......895 422 065 C. Yes, we didn't get this rack in the US so 034 has a market here for something better. For you guys it isn't much of an improvement.

Hmm, well in that case, can these racks be improved, ratio increased locally?

My guess is 034 have maxxed out the pinion gear toothage for the given housing.
Maybe this can be copied over here?

interesting. they might have improved it, as it used to say 2.5 when i was looking into it.

anyway, not a big improvement for 1000$ though

I have already looked into a quicker rack and not had any luck. AS above the 034 item is 2.0 turns lock to lock as opposed to 2.6 of the ABY / ADU rack.
It will be possible to have a higher ratio rack and pinion made but i have not been able to find anyone in the uk who is willing to do it due to the volumes and complexity of the pinion shaft & rotary valve on these type of racks. HTH

I've got a stock coupe rack and pinion here (3.0 turns) here I stripped out of an old rack if theres has any leads to a manufacturer who needs one to look at.
