Stripped fork leg

Today I stripped the front fork leg off my 1990 CQ and proceeded to carry on. When I removed the retaining nut, found inside not a strut as I know one but the internals of a shock absorber. What i'd like to know is
1 is this standard for a 7A CQ
2 if so how much oil does each leg take and what weight oil (i took out about 400ml from one leg).
3 would any of the aftermarket shocks fit ie bilsteins Koni's etc

Yes this is standard on a lot of audis, the original shocks being built in to the leg that is.
The replacement is an insert or normal type of shocker as you are used to . They are definitely available, I did some of these on a mates car about 5 months ago I think they were £37 each for the gas ones from German and Swedish .

As for how much oil is in there I have no idea , just replace them.

50ml of anti-freeze in each strut tube

Wow, last time i've seen a strut like that was on a 1970's BMW. Replace them with an insert, as above add anti-freeze or oil into the housing first.
