    Adjustable Steering Assistance Kit

    G'day folks

As we all know the steering assistance on our beloved cars is way too powerful, making the steering far too light. I also believe that the high level of assisance also has a significant damping effect on feedback through the system, loosing what little "road feel" is generated by the factory suspension set-up.

I have come up with a mod to make the steering assistance adjustable, which I will be testing in January. All being well I should be able to offer a complete kit.

This system works by bleeding off hydraulic pressure between the vane pump and the steering rack via an adjustable relief valve which tees back into the low pressure return to the reservoir. Unlike altering the pump drive this will not effect the brake assiance provision, and allow you to tweek the steering assistance to suit your requirements / driving style.
There is also be an option for a bypass so you can return the circuit to normal should your wife / girlfriend / dog etc need to use the car and want normal assistance if required.

Total additional weight circa 750g for those that care

If you're potentially interested, please post and this will enable me to get an accurate idea of cost based on volume of components.

    Cheers
    Alex

cost will not be stupid, parts are all off-the-shelf so to speak. I'm hoping somewhere between £100 - £150 max, depends a lot on volume of components

I wonder if you could use an electronically controlled solenoid instead so that it can be adjusted from inside the car?

Anything is possible Bo for sure.... electronically controlled valves are available but I fear cost would be a major dampener for a lot of folk since its industrial standard hydraulics we're into here.. would be pimp though
For me at least once i've got it set how i want it i'll leave it be

Will this fit the S6's too? If so i'd be interested so long as the head job doesn't go too far

its 5/112 pcd, just cant remember the offset, et47 from memory so its going to be more inboard than a stock s2 wheel (not sure what the s6 offset/ET is)

Its not in great condition i dont think, to be honest i havent seen it in the garage for months

You been on the mulled wine early this year David?

This should work on any hydraulically assisted car, would need to have a look at the bore / wall thickness of the pump to rack hose, my guess is the urS4 / 6 will be the same spec as the S2 hose.
Its easy to tell, you'll need to remove the rubber sheath around the hose and the hose spec will be printed on it
