    KPI angle?

    Here's a tough one.

Does anyone know what is the king pin inclination angle in URQ struts?

Or what can it be in S2, where it is adjustable?

And preferably the source of information.

    All help deeply appreciated.

Everything less than 2 bar is considered to be naturally aspirated

at last alignment my SAI was measured at 12o20' if that helps?
It is not really adjustable but i think cheanges with camber to a certain extent on a McStrut.

are you trying to affect the scrub radius?

Be best to measure it from a spare strut. Needs be done perpendicular to the axis of rotation so cant be done on the car

Whilst we are on the subject does anybody know what sort of Ackerman angles urq or S2 struts run. I was looking at mine the other day and it looks like the ackerman lines would meet around the rear diff which is ideal.

Ideal? I'd say it's not while it's an possibility to overcome the understeering caracter of our quattro cars.
Did you measure it on normal ride height?
I'm sure you want to modify it for your Sporty...

Lots of things i have read suggest Ackerman is rather a compromise for road orientated cars and ideally you might want super rigid tyres with minimal slip angles and close to zero Ackerman to maximise front inside wheel grip... all a bit complicated for my little brain if i'm honest

Hard (if not impossible) to judge without any simulations in a software environment such as Adams which takes ages to set up... not even speaking about translating the outcome to a viable solution on the car itself.

Ackermann can be used to bring the inside tire up to temperature, but i think this goes for anti-ackermann setups.

Why adams? A simple assembly in solidworks for example would do the trick. I'm planning to do something like that, but I need to measure the suspension components first. S2/t89 q is easy, you just mirror one side to another and pattern it for front & rear axle. Yeah, of course the parts are different too.

I was at that stage some time ago but gave up because the relative location of mounting points is almost impossible to measure.
For instance i'm talking about the location of the steering rack (which is very interesting if one wants to eliminate bumpsteer) relative to struts.

I found this article which gives some good theories behind Ackermann

Of course first you should have the car leveled. Then I suppose you could place a long water level between the top mounts and measure the height from there? May need the engine taken out. Another more complicated way could be to measure the lengths of the steering rods, measure the angle of them in vertical plane and measure the distance between the mounting holes in the steering rack and the distance between the mounting holes in the struts. From there you should be able to calculate the rack position in the vertical plane. Then measure the angle between the steering rods and it should give you the position in the horizontal plane. Or I suppose so. Quite a task to do, that's why I haven't done it either.
