I'm afraid I'm the sort of person who doesn't like this sort of mess under his car. I would love to strip the whole lot out, sandblast, paint, renew every joint and bush and refit. I did this with my opel manta, actually stripped the whole underside to bare metal and stonechipped\sprayed it. The car looks as well underneath as above. Thats why If I have to start fitting a bush or 2, it may end up in a full rebuild.

Where did you get the new boots for the caliper sliders gunman ? Main dealers ?
Don't suppose you got the part number for them bud ?
My local Md is next to useless and very unhelpful, they tell me a part is NLA most of the time because they cant be arsed
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

I got them about a year back off a guy on the audifans forum, they aren't boxed or bagged but there is a number - 2532320498 on them. I was just saying to the wife, I'm going to put an order into audi for all the wee bits that you use but never have - these rubber boots, ball joint bolts etc.. It's good to have a few bits on the shelf.

Well, the car is due for MOT now in 2 and a half hours, It at least is starting and driving. God only knows what they'll make of my flexi hoses, I rubbed the ends down and greased them. I just took it for a quick spin and it drives fantastic, if the bushes are worn I cant wait to see what it handles like with new ones.

There's something wierd with the handbrake, I reckon there's a sticky cable, I have it working now but the lever comes right up to the top. I have the calipers adjusted right, the slightest movement of the lever on the caliper engages the handbrake. If I adjust up the lever anymore the rear N/S wheel binds. I tried adjusting off the caliper a bit but then I had no handbrake on that side at all. As it is now I have a handbrake on both wheels and it's good and strong, just the travel in the lever.

I'll post back with all the issues they find later.

fingers X'd then... Even if you fail and get a list for a few small jobs its no big drama - bit messy and fiddly doing handbrakes and hoses but pretty easy in the big scheme of things.

Yes, not looking forward to it tho. The state of them all will make it fun getting them undone. If it fails on one flexi I'm going to do them all as they're all as bad. The work will all get done anway over the next year anyway, just could do without having to do it right now.

I'm just back from the MOT centre and as expected it failed. What it failed on I just didn't see coming. When it was put up on the ramp I could see a drip from underneath it, turned out it's dripping petrol. Everything else passed, brakes, suspension etc all 100% according tot he inpsector.

There looks to be a filter in front of the tank with a union on it, thats where the drip is coming from. Any ideas on what exactly could be causing it woul be appreciated. It is most likely the union I would say.

Still, a simple enough fix compared to what I expected.

Erm, just did a search on avant fuel filter and really hoping now it is the bottom banjo bolt, really dont want to have to remove the filter.

It will be Saturday now before i can get a look at it.

Avant filter is a total beech of a thing. Are you sure it's not just corrosion from one or more hardlines ?

I had this on the coupe - a simple enough repair with fuel hose and good clips - I didn't have time or space to renew the whole hardlines.

No, The guy brought me under the ramp to show me, it's dripping off the bottom banjo bolt on the filter. Now, where it originated I haven't found out yet. Do you need to clamp the outlet hose from the tank to work on this? I could be lucky and get away with a new washer, but that isn't too likely is it.

Try a new washer first i reckon... Unless you can feel fuel escaping before that point ?
