I have sone several wheel bearings on my coupe and have never had to take out a curclip and I don't think there is a groove for one either . But all the bearing kits Ive had have come with circlips they have just gone in the spare nut and bolt bucket .
never set your expectations to high that way you are never disapointed
Hi! I know is old thread..but...i have removed an old rear bearing from an coupe 3b and couldint find any circlips..but, there is one circlip groove close to the inwards ridge.
No ideea what to do... should be an circlip there? or the bearing is supposed to press till the ridge and that is all?
Thank You!
Solved! There is no circlip there! Is just an manufacture ridge i suppose.
Iff you fit circlip there the bearing will stay too much out...
Sorry for this.
Depending upon the year of manufacturing, the hub carrier may or may not have the circlip. If it has a ridge, this acts the same as the circlip. If the hub carrier has a groove, you need a circlip.

They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.
They changed to tapered / stepped bearings which don't use the circlips. Earlier type 85 and some type 89s used parallel bearings which needed circlips
