    Springs life span

How long do you keep the suspension springs before needing to replace?

i was recently told by a bilstein supplier that the springs being in the car for the last 6 years will have lost their abilities and need to be replaced. Other than the fact that the car sits a bit lower which makes it look better as well, i havent noticed anything out of the ordinary...

    what do people think?

I was wondering this myself, since my springs are ancient.

I think 6 years seems a bit quick... is that like the brake discs the local MOT station always tell me they need replacing and then go for another 60k before they are out of tolerance?

That said, I have 2 year old springs on the RS2, they were replaced sitting nice and low at 130k / 14 years. Angus commented the ride didn't noticeably change, the car just sits higher now. I guess it's concieveable they could eat shocks quicker once they get lower?

That said, the front springs let go on my brother's golf at 10 years old...

Im still keeping them, unless there is evidence of rust or corrosion. Unless superficial which can be mended with a bit of spray and paint, i dont think ill change them.

I will be putting new bilsteins front and refurb rears

        thanks for the replies!
