    ProConTen Update

    UPDATE:

Dan T.(ringbearer) posted a photo of a transmission that he just removed from his UrS4. I thought it was the normal CBL 5 spd we got in North America, not a 6 spd from a B5 S4 (that we did get), because the one Dan removed had the ProConTen bracket which the B5 S4 6 spd didn't. However, Dan said, "nope CGR (from an S2)". Furthermore, Martin P. (ralleyquattro) said that both the CGR from the S2 and the CRB from the RS2 have that cast ProConTen bracket. Hmmm...

SO I contacted Kate, the friendly parts girl, and quizzed her on Item 22 for the 5 spd CBL and the 6 spd CGR and CRB. She said that for the CBL, Item 22 had a PN of 01E301231J and for the CGR and CRB from the S2 and RS2, the PN for item 22 is PN 01E301231L which is exclusive to the CGR and CRB, doesn't even go to the CMG 6 spd in the V8 avant. Must be a smaller chassis B3/B4 thing.

Who knew? Too soon old, too late smart.

having removed a procon ten system and stapped in for later aby i feel the differences are

smaller steering gator on the bulkhead by a few mm. aby coupe stearing rack gator im talking about.
hollow botton of column to wheel.
smaller bore in stalk setum meaning a later set is baggy on the column.

obviously cables. to belts, sterering and round box.

what happens in a big front end accident i wou;ldn't want to know. from accident experience it would have to be really major to do the damage the tele advert shows. my aby was left with a haklf size pedal box. 1 broken engine mount, 2 broken gearbox mounts, broken wheel, bent shocker..... i got out fairly ok
