    ponging sound while steering

a few weeks ago a strange sound apeared in my 3B coupe.
After standing still for a few day there was a ponging sound when steering.
Then the sound was there only the first two corners then it was gone.
Also if the car was used every day there was no sound.

However since last week the sound is there every morning and afternoon even if the car is used every day.

The sound is like if the spring of the suspension is held back and then (after winding it up while steering) jumps forward.

Could this be caused by the topmounts??
If so, what part(number)s do I need??

    Thanks
    Carlo

could be that the spring is not sitting properly in the locator on the strut. I had this problem a couple of years back. Jack the car up and ensure the bottom of the spring is located in the metal lug in the base of the spring mount. Should all be quiet afterwards...I hope!

I had this problem, on full lock only, when the top mounts were worn.
