    Control arms for urs4

Hi I'm just sorting out the terrible knocking sound on the front right end which is down to old control arms. I've seen some control arms on ebay which are all the same price but I get the feeling they'd be made of chocolate, arms on eurocarparts vary from £60-£160.

Does anyone know a decent place for near OEM specification arms?

Quite keen to get it sorted while the car is having headgasket changed.

'meyle' do some in their HD range, about £60 each side very good quality with a 4 year warranty(which is unheard of,febi only give 1 year) and they come with various new bolts etc

I get mine from andrew page but they aren't in wales,so you will have to see who can get you them

Make sure you use new pinch bolts and check the hole where the ball joints goes, its getting quite common for that to start elongating due to reusing the old bolts.

Yes there is a stockist locator on their website,so you should be able to find somewhere close to you.
I have them on my car, and their top mounts also, they are quality items.

Spink Martin, I didn't mention it at the week end but one side on mine has started to go again. Cant remeber when i got my set but would guess around a year / 20K ago. I will have to check, but see me using the 4 year warranty sooner rather than later.

Std issue, minor judder at 85-90mph whilst on a very slight left hander.

I would avoid the ECP ones, we fitted some to my dads A8, they lasted a week, maybe 2. ECP said they would replace them, once the failed ones were returned. Spoke to the MOT tester and he had the same issue on his a4 with 2 sets in a row and had to take each set off to get new ones which means downtime. Cheap way to pass a MOT and then rattle for the rest of the year.

Will probably just locate an OEM set from TPS, sounds a bit extravagant but if they're going to last for the rest of the life of the car then its no biggy.

                  UrS4/S6 Front Suspension Torque values

When you install your new control arms (with integral ball joint) on your UrS4, you should use new bolts at the body end of the control arm as well as at the ball joint connection to the wheel bearing carrier. And they should be torqued properly, to values shown in this pdf (check your Bentley to confirm):

The large bolt is Item 20 on Page 1 and Item 11 on Page 2 of the pdf below
If the control arm does not come with the sleeve, Item 13 on Page 1 and Item 10 on page 2, you should get new ones.

The ball joint/wheel bearing carrier bolt and nut are items 14 and 15 on Page 2 of the pdf. It is very important to use the proper new bolt because if you don't and the shoulder of the bolt is too short, there will be play between the ball joint and the wheel bearing carrier - which will wear away at the bolt. As shown here, along with the PNs for the UrS6 equivalents that have slightly longer shoulders:

I picked up some QH control arms a couple of years ago and they've been ok so far. They were £45 each I think. You can ask at either ECP or GSF for the Lemforder brand. I believe these are OEM and although they'll be £100+, it may be cheaper than the dealer.

i bought pair from TPS this time last year - it does your head in when you look at your piece of paper and you have parted with about 420 after VAT etc...... but it made all the difference!
