I purchased 95 hubcarriers from someone breaking a car on this forum. The carriers use 14mm instead of the 12mm bolts, on my 90 coupe, to hold the carrier to the strut. My bentley does not have a value for these bolts. Does anyone with a 93 to 95 have a torque value for these bolts? I want to make sure I don't have one come off.

They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.

Could someone tell me if there is a difference between the front struts of a US spec, 7A equipped coupe & the euro S2? I know that the front strut diameter on my coupeQ was smaller that the rear strut. I have read thru many different threads on the forum which leads me to believe this is true, that there is a different front strut.
Also, is there a difference between the hub carrier other than a larger mounting bolt for the strut?
Finally, has anyone replaced the rear lower stamped steel control arm with the forged steel front control arm? IMHO, if you are going to put over 300 hp thru the chassis it would be a good idea to upgrade the control arms.

Hi,
Depending upon the year of the 7a and S2.
If your Coupe has two piece struts(hub carrier is not part of the strut), the strut is the same as the early S2s. The hub carrier and the strut on your USA coupe uses a 12mm bolt for attachment.
1993 and later S2 struts and for that matter all Euro coupes use the strut and hub carriers use a 14mm bolt for attachment. The same front struts can be found on the USA B4 sedans.
The only difference in the hub carriers, is your coupe has a protective ring on the inside of the carrier and the later hub carriers do not.
I don't believe the rear control arms ever had a forged one. Only the fronts came with a forged vs. stamped. I may be wrong on this. Please prove me wrong so I can buy two.

What I meant to say, is will the front forged control arm work in place of the rear stamped steel control arm? I thought I saw a post that showed an Avant rear suspension & it looked as if the rear control arm was a forging or a cast piece.

Sorry don't know if they can be interchanged. I know that some people have put the 4000Q front arms on an early coupe rear so they could run the front sway bar from the 4000Q. But if you are concerned about putting the horsepower through the rear, the late Audi sport Q ran the same lower control arms as the coupe.

There is another thought. The front cast/forged arms use a three bolt set up for the ball joint. The Coupe/S2 rear is only two bolt ball joint or viseversa.

When i fitted the S2 front hub carriers the holes did not line up. the bolt was fine but the distance between the centre line of the holes was 3mm out. A bit of time with a rat tail file and all is ok.
S2's in the UK, came with different arms depending on year. Some had forged fronts and pressed rears (like mine 1991) And other had pressed fronts and rears. Never have I seen one yet that came with forged rear arms.
I run over 400bhp with no problems.
