    Tracking (again)

My coupe passed its MOT on Saturday but this was slightly overshadowed by an advisory that both my front tyres are worn on the inside because I have too much -camber !

Can anyone in the south west (Bristol & surrounding) or maybe Birmingham (ish) recommend anywhere to get this done ?

I have been two places already and after I returned to the last one about the issues the guy freely admitted he did not how to adjust the camber !
He recommended another garage in Bristol (mitzi specialist) who wanted £100 just to do the camber, more if the tracking was out ! Yeah right !

Two brand new tyres wasted after a mere 1500 odd miles
My coupe sits on -30mm springs and Koni's which must alter the settings slightly from my original 1BE setup
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

They are only quoting you £100 because they KNOW everything will be seized on a car this age, save yourself some money and make sure every nut and bolt will come undone and grease/oil them. If you tell them this they will be much more interested in doing the job, in my experience anyway.

Are they around the Gravelly Hill/Erdington way ?

Everything was freed off after the first garage found seized adjusters on the front.
I did not bother freeing them off just bought new ones !

I've got the spec sheet somewhere from when it was done the second time but I do not understand it

£50 quid a side is generally the right price , we Quote 1hr labour (£48) per side. if its less time you get charged less! if its more its our problem ! Generally works out pretty fair for the customer though.

Lodge are based in Nechells, not far from Erdington.

Clive or Derick are the guys to speak to. They have a lot of experience of S2 alignment now.

Please Mention "Rich the bald electrician" sent you, if you go to them

If you go on a Saturday morning you may find at the garage over the road "J.C. motors" as I'm doing a lot of work there on the weekends.

                cheers

BTW, your camber is not excessive enough to wear a set of tyres out in 1500miles (IMHO). Make sure the toe is right

Protyre in Bristol or Miles Tyres out near Thornbury/Oldbury have both done well for me.

The camber is adjusted off the lower ball joints and is very simple on these cars. I'd put money on the expensive quote being somewhere who are used to adjusting it off the strut to hub bolt clearance - something that is a lot more time consuming and fiddly and can require special bolts. Make sure the camber is adjusted first (you can have the castor sorted at the same time if they're clever) as moving the lower ball joint affects toe!
