    Info needed 86 2086SPD2 Koni

I'm having second thoughts about these koni dampers. Perhaps anyone here can help out.

Are these dampers extarnally adjustable? Or is the the version you have to adjust when they are off the car?

Also does anyone know the exact length and width of the cartridge? Any help is highly apreciated!

Searched and browsed a lot to try and find awnsers, but without succes.

    Thanks

According to my koni catalogue these are not externally adjustable, you have to take them off to adjust.

the 8610-1262Sport for the 80 and Coupe (front) are externally adjustable, but there is nothing available for the rear that is adjustable externally.

Unfortunately no dimension information in the catalogue. I have a contact number for a guy at Koni UK if it is of any help to you?

The Koni adjustables I have cant be adjusted externally. I have also got the problem of them bottoming out in the housings as I was running quite low. I am not sure if they can shorten the pistons to stop that from happening?

            Jeffer,

I have Konis fitted to my Avant and I have to take them off at the front and the back each time I want to fine tune the settings, as well as taking them apart when they’re off the car.. It’s a complete royal p.i.t.a..

Even with care, one is always thinking that when one has taken the front struts out for adjustment, one has disturbed the tracking of the two front wheels, leading to the additional hassle and expense of having to have the car re-tracked.

They work well assuming you can get to find the optimum setting on the front and rear shocks. Externally top adjustable like they make for Mk1 Golfs would be a mega leap forward. But with our car’s being so long out of production, Kini is never going to change B4 shocks now.

Beacuse if this vile adjustment issue, I would respectfully suggest that you consider a set of shocks that are fixed in their adjustment so as you don’t have to endure the hassle of the “internally” adjustable Konis. Or better still, you are able to fit a set of shocks / coilovers that can be externally adjusted when they’re on the car without too much difficulty.

The two threads currently active on here regarding the KW1 and the KW3 suspension kits come to mind as possible suitable replacements, if you can come to terms with the initial outlay.

            HTH a bit.

As mentioned in your main RS2 thread, great job so far.

or you can get your Konis dyno'd to match your springs and fit and forget
For cheap fully adjustable I think KWs are the only option?

Or you could get some custom made - more your style I think Jeffrey!

Paul Drake at Raceline suspension is a good guy to talk to, He's a registered Koni approved workshop.
He rebuilt my KW Koni inserts (they are NLA, so he had to make new piston shafts for them using the dimensions of the ones he removed).
He's difficult to get hold of, and can only be described as a guy who takes his time, so be warned you will have to be patient. But you cant fault the quality and expertise of his work.
He will be able to tell you all sorts about Koni's and he's a man who can in terms of modifying koni's (as proved)
So if you need koni's shortened, or maybe top adjustable konis from a different model modified to fit s2 struts? i think he could do it!!!
