    suspension and spring reccomendations wanted

Dear Friends i have converted my suspension units to 2/14 coil overs
and would like to know if anyone has any informationas regards a good starting point for spring poundages linear or progressive and if i use a bilstien 40mm damper what setting for bump and rebound.
at the present i have put in uprated koni cartridges and stripped off the lower platform and fitted a 2/14 conversion kit and at the top end made rose jointed works type top mounts
i would like to use this for track days so i can feel the full handleing potential of the car. i own the company who manufacure the spring conversion kits for Tas and demon tweeks as well as the new rose jointed top mounts and motorsport wishbone bushes(QRsport) so call 07860 265215 me if you need any of these at trade prices at least i can help in this way as a thankyou you can contact
qr sport they are great and will help you with brake conversions to they can supply and fit
    kind regards Stephen

Very interested in this. Can you post some pictures, especially of the rose-jointed topmounts? A picture of your new struts would be nice too if possible. Can you PM some prices?

I am sure someone here has the spring rates of various springs. Don't you know anyone with a rig for measuring spring rates?

i have access to a sring tester thats not the proplem i need some one who has tested various springs on the circuit to get the optimum results for handleing the web has prooved difficult.

so if any one out there can help iwould be very grateful and then after testing i will have a suberb coil over unit at the right price

Understood. Not aware of many that have played with this on an S2. Also depends on mass of car, mass distribution, roll bars, aerodynamics, tyre choice, track settings and driver preference to name but a few.

Still interested in your topmounts if you have more info.

          Stephen,

I have a 3B coupé. That should give you the weights on each axel pretty much.

I have sourced adjustable coilovers from 2Bennett in the US. The track their Audi's a lot. The springs they recommended to me for street/track were 300 lb/in front and 350 lb/in rear, linear. If you have a dedicated track car you may want to go higher. I have yet to fit them so I can't give you BTDT. Take the numbers as a point of departure. I need to match them with some good dampers as well. Are you going to revalve your Bilsteins yourself? 2Bennett sells an externally double adjustable insert for our struts. The dampers also offer complete revalving kits for compression and rebound. I gotta talk to them about this but I think they are about the same price as Leda's.

I too am interested in your gear. If you make a camber/caster plate for the top mount that would be cool. I frankly think the rubber top mount a poor construction - no matter what color it is.

Is a Rose joint what yanks call a ball joint or monoball? If so I am interested.

converting the struts to coil overs is easy i will send you a photo of the kit i have done not sure how to do this on this forum give me your email and i will send it or tell me how i have now got a setting from bilstien a progressive front spring non yet for the rear i have ab s2 setting from them for a 40mm insert i will make a new threaded tube to accept it and rose jointed steering arms to yes a rose joint is a sperical bearing or usa monoball the 350lb is vey heavy ther is no weight there so we will have to check this out
i have a full motorsport workshop full cad facilitys cnc machines and run subarus and evos making lots of motorsport parts and distribution this is just a play thing for me so if we get it right on the trck we will have achievd a grat deal i will send you a photo of the top mounts i have used them for 2 years on a road car spot on the tighten up the steering +suspension+ handleing is vastly improoved. what lenth are the springs and what is the optimum bump& rebound you are using

              Stephen,

You can send me pics and info on all your products at: rictan302@yahoo.com

I agree - converting to height adj. coilovers is pretty painless. The PITA if finding dampers/shocks that have the right settings for the springs. Koni's, Leda, 2Bennett and of course the "unobtanium" Öhlins are exceptions.

A lot of guys just buy the whole setup with springs and dampers already matched. That is a nice solution. It gives you a matched set. But most manufacturers don't let you choose the spring rates you want. You get the springs THEY think are optimal. F**k that. I am willing to compromise comfort but not handling. As you can see, mine are pretty hard. I have been running the H&R springs for about 5 months and was not happy with them. (I will be selling them shortly.) They don't tell you what the constants are. They just say that the springs are a great improvement over the the original springs ( an opinion I do not share ).

I have a hunch we are out after the same thing. You probably have some gear that I will like. Send me the info and keep in touch.
