    Steering issues

I have an issue with my S2 that is doing my head in.About 2 weeks ago I replaced the front shocks, and as usual had the minor issues of rusted nuts and also the o/s track rod end being stuck in the hole on the strut itself.

Having barely driven the car no more than 10 miles it is now crabbing and if you look closely you can see visibly the tracking is out.The steering wheel does not want to straighten itself out and if you drive over a manhole cover the car wants to sidestep to the left.

Obviously,as a matter of course you would check the tracking after any alterations which will be done tomorrow.

I am concerned that I may of bent the steering arm as when it was stuck I did what I usually do and wedge a bar between the arm/strut to put pressure on it coming apart whilst using a lump hammer to smack the arm on the strutt.

On inspection the arm appears to be fine to the eye,has anyone else ever bent an arm before? They do seem solid! Also having only changed the shocks surely the tracking wouldn't be out that much you could see it?

To the eye you would say that the o/s wheel is slightly pointing in,it would sort of make sense as i levered the bar downwards in the direction of removing the trackrod.

    Anyone else had this before?

if you have changed the camber be changing the struts (the strut to hub bolts allow some camber adjustment), then the toe will automatically be affected, so probably just that is out of spec. Sounds that way from how you are describing it is driving

I'm sure they can be bent but they are fooking strong! I remember bashing at a pair of 18" stilsons with a 5lb sledge hammer trying to free off a seized rod end and they were perfect after, so I'd be surprised if you have

a 2 leg puller is always good for extracting the track rod end from the upright
