    Did you know??

That when tracking an s2 that the threaded centre (forget the name) you have to adjust is on a left handed thread??

Took my avant for tracking last week and they tried to undo them, even heating up with gas and they would not budge.I was looking over his shoulder as he tried in vein to loosen them.

Sold a set of arms yesterday to a forum member and i promised i would see if they were seized up or ok etc.

Then found out that although you put your track rod end on in normaly (anti-clock to undo, clock to do up) when moving the threaded centre its actually on a left handed thread into the long steering arm! (tyre guy only tried anti clock)

So remember that next time you hear someone saying "those old audi's are always seized up!"

I am always amazed that people can F this up. All you have to do is look at the exposed threads to see which way is in/out or tight/loose. //// or \\\\

Well 75% of the cars on the road have rotten track rod adjusters (from experience!!)
Pointless looking at the adjusters just try it both ways if the system is like Audi one - common sense really so probably the competence of the qualified adjuster should be questioned.. No offence!

Only read that in a thread yesterday.

Didn't know myself as my method is to buy Bambridge adjusters and some new tie rod ends and hand the lot over to a garage

That's the way adjusters work, if one of the threads was not left hand then it would not change the position of the track rod relative to the track rod end when you turned it, all that would happen is the adjuster bolt would move out of one and into it the other . thus all track rod adjusters have a left and right thread, in our case the inside (track rod) has the left hand thread.

I thought it was pretty obvious that they were this way as well as they would not adjust otherwise.
Iv got a set of bambridge adjusters ready to go on and the plan is to get it set up, locked tight then cover in grease and then heat shrink over the whole lot to stop them rusting and getting full of ****.

I paint exposed threads in copper grease

If they can't work out a reverse thread then I doubt the tracking is going to be particularly great
