    Urgent PAS pump replacement instructions

Hi guys, in a bit of a pickle, pas pump has decided to piss liquid FAST at the worst time gt some business trips coming up in next couple days and no mechanic or friend is around to fit the spare I have.
Want to try doing it myself, is it tricky for a novice or just common sense?
    Any guides already out there?

    Thanks in advance

Don't worry its an easy job mate. From memory:

undo the convoluted pipe in front of the rad and drain the remains of the fluid out.
release belt tension and remove belt from the pulley. Remove the tensioning bolt
Remove the 3x banjo fittings on the pump and cover the ends with tape to seal them. move the lines out the way
Remove the two bolts holding the pump housing to the bracket bolted to the side of the head.
    Remove pump & alloy carrier
unbolt pump from alloy carrier & replace
refit in reverse of the above.
    refill with fluid
start engine & turn steering lock to lock a few times to bleed out any air
check fluid level and adjust as necessary

If your pump is leaking because the O ring has given way underneath one of the sealing plugs with the large cross on it - the commonest place - you can get a new plug and O ring from the Dealer and replace in situ saving having to remove the pump.

Part number looks like 026 1 45541 on the one I have.

No im fairly certain I need to do the whole pump. My friend promised to check it over and top up liquids etc as a favour he owed me.
Long story short he put the wrong liquid in and it completely seized up the steering, we had to pump out the red sh*t he put in there and replace with green G002000.

Now after months of fine(but noisy) use later its pissing half a litre out every trip.

Will get around to changing it tomorrow morning

if the new pump has no pulley on it, crack the bolts loose while the belt is still attatched, much easyness then

Perfect timing this thread as I have the same(ish) issue.. After being frightened by the cost of a new pump I've done some searching and it appears the replacement of the seals is the way forward to get a leaky pump back in service. Hope the stealer has them all in stock.. Can they all be done with the pump in situ or is it best to remove it? Any idea how many seals there are ...?
Hope you get on ok Lagz.

              Cheers

The link didn't lead to the right fluid.

GSF, ECP or your local Audi dealer are best places to go for the correct fluid but if Halfords is your only option I've used LHM mineral fluid (as used in Citroens) from Halfords.
