    Strange clunking from osf

Noticed on Sunday my s2 coupe has started making a strange clunking knocking type noise whilst driving about.
The spring original was broken on that side and both sides where replaced with a set of s2 struts complete also with new tie rod ends and anti roll drop links. On inspection at the time before mot the cv boots and ball joints looked good. The car from previous owner had been laid out for some time before purchase.
So with new struts in with top mounts that were smooth to turn everything was perfect passed mot.

Last night it was doing it more often the noise, doesn't seem to have a set way of causing it unless low gear running when taking foot off throttle and it happens. So I got out the car at mine and rolled it by hand at the wheel and it would happen at ever half turn of the wheel. It sounded like from my calliper.
When having the suspension off for mot the side in question the caliper was cleaned up pistons out as was sticking. Could the caliper pistons be playing up again and causing this sound?? Was noted at the time it would have to be replaced. There is unequal wear on the disc, like a half inch of black marking right around.

After much reading on the threads come to think maybe top mount has gone or loose from top.
Or the strut has worked its way loose and is knocking about.
Or something to do with the brakes.

All theory's and solutions needed as worried what the problem is. I will upload a video for easier diagnostics of noise.

    Thanks Chris

Top mounts are most likely, also check ball joints and drop links for ARB too

I had a clunk when I rebuilt mine and it was the spring castle nut being about 1/8 of a turn loose

After a trip to my cousin madpugger. He thinks cv joint.

Drop links were new, top mounts near new and double checked nut at top.

But will get the car on the ramp and feel for play on the cv and check everything else whilst at it.

What about the nut which tightens the shocker insert into the strut, and the condition of the insert

Always worth a look at all these possible things before just thinking its one thing. I'll jack the car up and have a good look will the wheel off.

Have you checked the lip of your disc ? Either that or is
your drive shaft bolt is tight ?

What am I looking for on the lip???

                Thinking its drivetrain related.

You can get a lip on the outside of your disc due to wear and that can contact your caliper , but you should still check your drive shaft bolt is tight
