Has anyone used solid top mounts supplied by compbrake?
They sound great, but I'm concerned about the direct metal to metal contact between them and the car. I'm guessing it would be quite noisy or rattly over small bumps since there is no rubber damping like the oem style?
Many have used them with varying degrees of success and longevity. Most just go for something a little more compliant unless for track use. There are many threads discussing many options... Depends on budget and use really.

I just want something that will last, I don't mind spending the money if it saves replacing them all the time. I like how they have a decent bearing in there, but I'm just not sure about having a metal to metal contact in the strut tower & I would try to use some insertion rubber as a lining.
I'd be surprised it cracked unless there was other damage. Its made of 3 layers of 2mm think steel, its hard enough cutting through it with a 9" grinder!
Have been using the comp brake ones for few years now. Can't think of any major flaws about the design. They have even endured The Finnish winters. When I installed the top mounts to my car, I put some water resistant calcium based grease in the underside of the mounts, to prevent the dirt/snow/salt/whatever getting to the bearings. The bearings are still in good condition, and now as I built adjustable front top ends which can't utilise the comp brake items, they are going to the rear axle.
Glad this topic came up- my shock top mounts are in pieces and i have a huge vibration from the front left ( for those who remember what i suspected to be the propshaft/ crown). It turned out to be only these.
Could someone point me in the right direction? need to make a purchase asap as i have an aunt flying down from UK next week.
thanks in advance chaps
