    Vague steering.

Hey everyone, I've got a 3B S2 coupe and the steering has gone really vague and has a mind of its own over 100mph. Just seems to drift over the road. I was wandering whether it's a common problem? I am booking it in with my mate to give it a once over but thought I'd ask on here first. Any helps greatly appreciated

Its probably the top mounts. These cars seem to eat them and when they go the steering gets a bit non responsive.

I would check in order of prefernece.

Bolts holding balll joints are tight.
      Control arm bush play.
Subframe tight and not moving araound on its mounts.
      Condition of wheel bearings
      Toe in

Condition of rear suspension, for rear wheel steering.

Good luck tracking down the problem.

sooooooooo many things can cause loose or vague steering. In fact even in good condition the steering is rather vague!

        Just a few potential casues:

        ball joints
        TREs
        loose bal joint nuts
        wisgbone bushes
        subframe bushes or bolts loose
        dampers
        topmounts
        dodgy alignment
        worn rack
        not enough rack preload
        unevenly worn tyres
        unmatched tyres
        loose strut bolts
        loose tie rod mounting bolts
        cracked steering yoke
        loose rack mountings
        loose steering column

        plenty to check!

Also tyres could be too wide IMO
