      Guten tight.

I don't think I have ever seen a torque figure for those. Someone might be able to provide one. That being said, I use my impact set on the lowest setting and with just a couple of quick blips it is tight. Ive done this on a least 4 cars. No leaks so far and it has been over a decade.

It's very important to prime the o-ring in clean fluid and seat it carefully, because it won't matter how tight the plug is if you damage the new o-ring in the process of refitting it. Lot's of threads on Quattroworld about this, general consensus is 'as tight as you can get it'. Whilst you are in this area, would also recommend fitting a magnefine filter inline on the return hose to the reservoir, and renew as much of the fluid as you can get out. I did it the easy way and used a siphon to drain the reservior only but you can also use the starter to turn the engine over (with the fuel pump fuse out) and flush even more of it out that way. I can dig out the links to this procedure if you are interested. There is a formal drain point somewhere down near the bomb or the rack if you have the time to flush the entire system properly. I also recently swapped over to redline PS fluid which is very highly recommended for extending pump lifetimes.

I thought that only oem fluid should be used...

                  All,

                  1. Any links to where one can buy the correct cross head bit to tighten the power steering pump nut nut, ideally at reasonable money ?

                  2. Any links to a suggested in-line micro filter, as suggested earlier in the thread ?

                  3. Any further information on a bleed / drain point else where / low down on the power system to get a good / efficient drainage of the old power steering fluid ?

                  Thanks for any comments.

The tool you need for the plug is called a drag link socket, they are commonly available from good tool suppliers. I don't know what the exact size you need is, but Urs4boy will no doubt be along shortly to help out :-) Try reading through this http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/24740.phtml

I fitted a magnefine 3/8 inch transmission fluid filter inline on the return hose to the reservior on my RHD UrS6. I couldnt find a UK suppier at the time so ordered 2 including shipping for about 50USD from a company called Lakes Transmission over eBay.

                    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-INLINE-3...-/260414674611

Its worth getting at least 2 at a time particularly as your first one should idealy be changed after about 3 months because it will remove so much material on first installation. I do about 8000 miles a year and change the magnefine filter annually along with a fluid change.

Here is a photo of the filter tucked in nicely between the inlet manifold hose, the windscreen wash reservoir and passenger side headlight.

I am not familiar with the S2/ABY layout so you'll have to confirm that you can find a suitable spot for your own.

As regards flushing, I fitted this filter as an alternative to doing a complete fluid flush, and was fairly lazy and only drained the reservoir. There is a really good link to a slightly cleverer procedure here which with the aid of the starter motor and a helper will allow you to keep filling the reservoir with clean fluid and pump as much of the old fluid out as possible.

This procedure was written for an early A8 but is essentially the same for any Audi of similar vintage.

You can of course drain the system properly if you are brave enough, personally I would only do it if also replacing a component (e.g. bomb, pump etc) and had no choice. In theory the magnefine filter over time should prevent the need to get every last drop of the old fluid out when you change it.
