  • H&R coilovers. Remove helper springs?

I have s2 coupe h&r coilovers on my coupe quattro type 85.
It's adjusted as low as possible in the rear but it's still to high.
Can i remove the helper springs?
I understand the use if i would have them at the highest possible thread but i dont really want to understand if i have adjusted them very low.
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks - Tobias

How much too high? Sounds like you need shorter or softer springs.

The helper springs are only there to stop the spring falling out of the seat when the strut is fully extended. You may get away with removing them - just check that, with the car in the air (wheels hanging), you don't have too much free movement of the spring, such that it can come out of the cup. If there is loads of slop then you'll need to have the shocks shortened to take up the slack and sit lower.

      Thanks for your input.
I've been thinking about this and will probably leave it as it is.. been looking at the rear legs and the helperspring is pretty high, At least when the leg is on the workbench, probably gonna leave much slack if removed.. I will have a look under the car when it sits on the ground before i'll decide for sure.
