    Wishbone strength

Just wondering at what power level you need to look at uprating the wishbones? I know the factory went to forged affairs on the last of the Ur quattro's but that seems an over 'over engineering' addition for the standard 220bhp RR engine.

I dont think engine HP has much to do with it, weight of car, bigger gripper tyres, track driving, rough B roads etc will put more stress on them. To a certain extent the cast arms wont flex as much as the pressed steel items under these extreme loads, and with any metal repeated stressing can weaken the parts to the point of failure. The difference is actually noticeable when driving, the front end feels more joined on when loaded up in corners. But only when you are pushing the limits of grip.

Also worth noting the cast arms have larger rubber bushings, but i've never run with them, i poly bush everything.

I had a friend with a cq N/A 20v. Track tyres and delrin bushes made light work of pressed wishbones they would fatigue and snap close to the bushes. So like mentioned above its more to do with cornering and suspension stresses rather than power.

If they snapped it probably was the bushings that was to tight and didn't move like it should.

So are the Cast wishbones that much better/stronger in reality and are they a direct swap for the pressed versions in my Cq? Also, would I not need to change all 4 at the same time or is it the front that takes most of the stresses.

Yeah it was stiglet. It happened a couple of times to him. I did have a theory that the bushes weren't moving as they should causing the fatigue. But who knows....

The cast/forged wishbones are oe fit on the front only. They swap like for like on an s2 with the stamped arms (aside from different bushes) They use 3 bolt ball joints (does your coupe use 2 or 3 bolt?)

They are not direct fit on the rear AFAIK, I think you can get them to work but need offset subframe bushes to get the wheel centred in the rear arch IIRC.

Bit slow seeing this comment. If they stand up to that I don't think I have a problem, though just thinking of seam welding them for extra security..

Seam welding should make them stronger so why not. Why didn't I think of that.... Have to put it on the long to do list
