    Subframe info needed

Hi folks need some guidance on subframes please....

    Front
Would a 2.6 v6 subframe work with a AAN and 6 speed box?

    Rear
Is there any difference between subframes on a 3b, ABY, 7a, V6 Q? Probably going to be using a ABY diff?

    Thanks
    Andy

Rear subframes differ, early ones hadn't got ARB, later ones like ABY had.

P.S. I have one with arb up for sale.

Great so for the rear I will need an S2 (3b or ABY) because by the sound of it they are exactly the same?

What about front is a V6 one the same as an ABY?

Quatritto thanks for the offer but at the moment I am only sorting out my very very long parts list

        Thanks guys

ETKA says, all ACQ-s since VIN L 003 682 have RARB, so some (late) 7A-s may have it and all V6-s definetly have it.

I have ACQ NG L 016 XXX with RARB.

Also from ETKA: there is front subframe 8A0 199 313 BC. It was for V6 quattros with 01A gearboxes and S2/RS2 with 01E gearboxes.

Mmmm so that would suggest there is a difference between a FWD front subframe and a Quattro one?

My 7A is early 1990 and has rear ARB. It was only the really early ones, 1988 & 1989 that did not. As above, there was a VIN number break point when they all had them

There are also two different rear subframes with rear arb mounts, the rear tie rods are different lenghts and so the mounts on the subframe for the tie rods are in different places.

I had read the v6 front subframe could be used with a 6 speed box, but I amd sure fataudi80 was selling a v6 front subframe because it would need modded it fit his aby.

I stand corrected, good to know the rear ARB was fitted to more models than the S2 only

most of the front V6 subframes have additional metal plating welded on. this metal fouls in the engine bay.
it can be ground off but its difficult and time consuming to make tidy/unnoticeable again.

Does it foul on the body or on the engine/box ?

Definetly yes for slant/inline R4 & R5 engine: different amount of factory-welded braces for gearbox, FWD cars have less.
Newertheless V6 FWD subframe has 2 such braces like a quattro one. But not sure that FWD V6 subframe is the same as Quattro V6 one. OEM partnumbers differ. Perhaps, height of one brace is other.

downpipe area if i remember correctly.
might as well pay the extra and get one that fits properly straight away.
