    Audi A6 C4 uprated shocks. hp2 struts

I am currently looking for the best deal on front updated shocks for my A6 tdi Quattro. It has the hp2 setup.

It has koni at the moment but one has failed and I think the other one is also on its way out.
The car sits low but don't know what SPEC these shocks are. Yellow in colour and red springs.

I am really only wanting to replace the shocks on the front.

    Any suggestions welcome.

Looks like Custom Autocraft do a sport shock for around 50 euros...

'93 S4 Avant now back on the road complete with new shiny go faster bits.

Wietec on mine. Fantastic. Mines 40mm lowered. Tells me my RS2 on Billie sports are useless as the A6 has more grip!

As far as I know the oem shocks for UrS4/UrS6 is Boge-Turbo / Sachs-Advantage (Just with a different sticker )
I have fitted Koni str.t (orange ones) in the rear and I think they are much like the oe UrS4 shocks - maybe a bit stiffer.

I can't really comment on the front shocks.

Some say that the fronts needs to be replaced twice as often than the rears...

Just Koni Yellows or Bilstein Sprints! Both are fantastic shocks on these cars. Only one issue with the Bilsteins hence the structure of them, you need to drill a small water drain hole in the bottom of your struts. In the winter, if there is water inside the strut, it will freeze and destroy the shock absorber.

            No you don't!
You fill them with pure antifreeze. helps cool them and stops any corrosion from inside.

Ok great, didn't know that, thanks for sharing. Seems that no other on our finnish forum didn't know that either.

But you have to left some airspace for the shaft movement and thermal expansion, right?

I've always put anti-freeze in my struts, but I don't fill them. I just put approx 20mm in the bottom before fitting the damper.

I always have them full. Any expansion should happen all together. Never had any problems.

Try Yaz, he got me a great deal on Bilsteins this week and he was saying he has Weitecs on his C4.

Hmm, have you used Bilstein B8's upside down monotubes with the open bottom structure? I would belive a full filled strut would destroy it if there is no room for expansion, it would be like a solid pipe instead of a shock when the lower chamber is full of liquid. Also when I now finally found a cross-section pic of the structure I can't tell there would be any benefit using any antifreeze in the strut at all.

If using these Bilsteins I would still recommend drilling the drain holes in the bottom of the strut.

I also have Weitec springs now on my UrS. They are quite nice for everyday driving, but they are too soft for my taste. The car bow's quite much in tight corners etc... H&R or Eibach springs is superior to these.

That diagram is for stuts without separate tubes. Our Audis have the insert type like your bottom picture. The piston going up and down dosen't affect the external part of the shocker.
I would recommend filling the strut tube on assembly. I think the billies tell you do this or it might be Konis. More cooling the better in my book. The threaded retainer isn't air tight so any worry of expansion isn't needed. It will expel any excess fluid.

I'm well know of the system on our cars. The pic of the shocks and springs are my old setup on a C4q 100 V6. And yes, I'm also avare of the smaller pic that it's different than on these cars, but the structure of the shock itself is the same after all.

Finally I found a link that clears up everything I'm trying to tell you with my unclear english: http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?p=18969719
