Strut mounts gone after 500km ?

    Hello Everybody,

14 days ago, I have fitted my car with new KV suspension, so I have put there brand new SKF strut mounts - I have followed instructions (especially regarding torque). But the front mounts seems to be gone, when Im turning the wheels there is no rotating movement in the topmount - the coil is rotating on the damper itself . Also the gargling sound can be heard from the front topmounts during ride.

Did I something wrong, or I just need some uprated strut mounts ? If any, could you recommend me ? (the car is daily driver).

    Thanks,

    Radek

With lowered suspension uprated top mounts is the way to go I think. There is some info on uprated top mounts on this forum. They don't come cheap though and I don't know how much difference it makes for a daily ride. Avantus was fitting some I believe?

I will be fitting Comp Parts mounts with upgraded bearings.
It would be those that have too much play on OEM or Meyle units, and cause rattles on stiff suspensions.

Hope to install them this weekend, will report

I was looking at them. body of the topmount itself is made from some polyurethan rubber ?

You did the upgrade by you ?

        Thanks

Only the bearings are different, with much less play in them (better quality)

And no, comp parts in Germany sells them.

Update on the Comp Parts topmounts I finally fitted on my RS2

First thing to mention is that I've got H&R Monotube coilovers, and that I've gone through 3 sets of top mounts (1x OEM, and 2x Meyle HD). They ALL
continued my topmount rattle from the first testdrive.
I fitted the Comp Parts ones yesterday and after the first little bump on the driveway I knew the problem had gone. Front suspension AT LAST feels rigid, silent, and
the car feels so much better for it.

Only did like 30km or so for now, but since the other ones couldn't cope at all from the first km with the stiff suspension, I have good hope for these ones

Will do 5000km in september with the car, so can report again after that.

Oh yes and it's only the bearing that is different, the green mount is an OEM one. So the true problem is the bearing that has too much play on the OEM and Meyle versions and causes the rattle

Don't have a picture, but they come with the bearings loose from the mounts.

The bearings looks (!) identical to OEM, and the rubber (green) mount is an OEM one.

They get pressed together by the weight of the car when installing them, but in the end they look like OEM, but with a better quality bearing.

So I have finally recieved and fitted another type of topmounts.

Please see photos. I have done only 10km on them so far. If any problem ocures I will post a report.

                            Cheers,

                            Radek

                              Full metal?
Not worried about cracking your strut? Ride comfort?

                              Looks nice though
