I can't believe this. The H&R s on my S2 Avant were beautifully low, but painfully still. Took them off as the roads were too bad with 18" 225/40/18 as a daily driver.
I presume there are not two different sets of H&R spring kits for a B4 S2 Avant ?
Has anyone tried or got Eibach springs ?
Interesting thread.Comment

I think what a lot of people would like is for Bambridge to make a coilover kit that bolts on, on an exchange basis and uses the factory springs but just say 20 / 30mm lowered, (with appropriate shocks). So one get the lowering, but none of the harshness of lowered springs.
Having said that not sure it that is possible with the diameter of the coil of the front springs, and the issue of the position of the arm on the front strut housing that connects to the track rod end.
Haven't really thought this through before posting.
A less expensive and easier solution might be, maybe an opportunity for a group buy of a 25mm lowered spring kit for S2 Avants that are rated identical to factory springs, but are lowered and will work with factory shocks, or aftermarket Koni/Bilstein shocks.
Just sayin....Comment

There are the rs2 hr which are stiffer than the.s2
My car lowered close to 20mm had problems with speed bumps. Looks were great.
Also on most long-standing hr s2 I had seen eventually the rear seems eventually to sit lower than the front.Comment

Original setup - 16" avus, Koni shocks, RS2 Arb's, standard everything else.
Nice and soft, good daily runner.
Next setup - As above but with 17" RS2 reps.
Slightly sharper turn in, less wallowy. Possibly my favourite for all round driving.
Setup now - 18" avus, Koni's, H & R S2 springs, poly bushed, solid front subframe mounts, Neuspeed 19mm RARB.
Stiff, sharp and uncomfortable. Much better when pressing on. Not so much fun on country lanes but feels planted the rest of the time.

Thanks for reply - Logical.
Does anyone know how one might recognise which set one had when looking at an set of old aesthetically worn H&R springs, i.e. colour codes or some other distinguishing factor.
Thanks.Comment

Front arch is higher than rear so with equal drop on both axles, front will look higher than rear. 15-20mm more drop on front will make all four wheelgaps look ~ the same.

If that is true then how come the original springs setup keep the car straight without the rear looking shorter than front?
Also if HR are dropping the car equally then what you suggest shouldn't happen.
My hypothesis is simply the rears have more abuse and therefore the springs sit a bit more than the fronts. On original top mounts that doesnt matter all that much as they get squished and the car may look equal again. But once you go on to proper top mounts the difference gets higher and higher.
I even noticed the same issue with my current Faulkner springs. As both front and rear were new and settled + measured to be equal height all around, after a couple of weeks of driving the rear sits ever so slightly lower now.
Finally if you mean the front arch itself when compared to the rear sits higher that is correct. But my measurement is between the arch and the wheel. That distance gets lower at the back with timeComment

Bringing back from the bottom of the proverbial thread barrel.
Interested to here what people have to say as some have mentioned here what set ups they have and the thoughts on day to day use, handling etc.Rob

My car currently sits like this.
I will be fitting the attached front springs which were custom made for us. Once I'm happy with the stiffness and response the shop will be able to copy those springs and make them at any given rate/ height to match each person's needsComment

Forgotten about this!
I have been running the setup above with 200 lbs front and 315 lbs rear on bambridge coilover materials and i have been happy with it. Height can be modified and raised to stock and currently it won't go any lower and I'm not fussed as I wouldn't go lower anyway. Sits about 15mm lower than stock at the moment.
Only downside is the surface rust on the coilover sleeves which I don't mind as it can be easily removed whenever a shock absorber change is due. Making those out of SS is very costly and difficult.
Overall very happy going that way.Comment
