    spherical bearing track rod ends

These any good ? Not worth it ? Too expensive ?
( When you go into the description itself, strangely they say they are for an Alfa GTV, althoug main ad says Audi Coupe etc...)

The look pretty good, would certainly take some play out of the steering side of things

I'm guessing that they have labelled the advert incorrectly either on the main description or in the body of the ad re the 'Alfa' reference ....I'll ask them anyhow, does seem a ÂŁÂŁ lot though compared to the tenner or so for regular ones , but against the price of a full alignment offsets this I guess ( and I've had a full 4 wheel align it done twice recently...mainly cos I fitted KW V1 suspn right after the first alignment...bah ! )

        Track rods / Tie rods

One of the improvements that the 911 turbo models had over the std 911s were that the tie rods / trackrods had spherical bearings instead of hard rubber cushions. When you are in a turn, there is a some slop eliminated from the steering geometry. I changed mine to the turbo spherical bearings and thought (qualified) I felt more precision in the steering.

I still ended up in the gravel pit now and then but I couldn't blame it on the steering

I'm sure they will make an improvement but they won't last long on the road with an exposed bearing and IMHO unless Compbrake has changed significantly since they new owners took over they won't be very good quality.

And I don't think you will get through an MOT with them either

I have NO opinions whatsoever on quality. I can only say that Porsche turbo tie rod ends are sealed in rubber to keep crud and grunge off the bearings. I think this was drawn from experience and supports the above opinion.

Would any of the 911 variants be suitable for the S2?

It would be a long shot. All the screw threads would have to be the same diameter and the other dimensions like length would have to be the same.

The Porsche part nr is : 930 347 322 00. Drop by your friendly Porsche dealer and see if you can get the details.

The damned things is that I just ripped up the rubber cover during a visit in the gravel and need a new one. But don't hold your breath before I order it and get it installed. Porsche parts cost a fortunre. Plus everytime you install these, you need to realign the front end and that costs another fortune.

They look very similar! The thread / taper shaft looks shorter though

For those to fit youd need to find the correct tapered pins or bolts too, not a direct fit.

Cant see why they wouldnt pass an mot, yes theres not rubber boot but thats because the joint isnt packed with grease to keep it lubricated. Still, you can buy rubber dust covers for these kind of rod ends.

I replaced the outer tie rod ends on my CQ with similar items (although without the dust shield) and found there to be zero difference in feel and they developed play within just a few months. I am sure these would last longer with the shield, and the bearings themselves may be stronger but TBH, the tie rods are probably the least of your worries on the steering system as the stock items have near as damn no play at all. I know someone (Bambridge?) makes solid or poly inner bushes, that will make far more difference and at a lower cost you may find?
