Anyone who's removed a b4 Quattro rear subframe.....

Are the rear most subframe to chassis mounting points a thread that is cut into the chassis rail or does it use a bolt and nut arrangement with the nut accessed from the boot/luggage compartment?

Reason i ask is I'm about to start a fwd to Quattro conversion on my 80 v6 avant and have scraped away some underseal to reveal the holes for the rear most rear aubfrw mount as shown in photo below. However
The holes I have revealed although being in the correct position are simply holes and not threaded.

Therefore I'm wondering what I need to do here. Weld a nut into the chassis rail at this point or bolt right up through into the boot/luggage areA

The photos below are not of my car but do indicate what I'm on about. Mine does not have a threaded hole though..... Just a hole.

in a Quattro the nuts are captive and held in place but with some room to move for subfram alignment

I'm assuming the chassis leg must be thicker on a Quattro as that chassis leg section. Is quite thin steel

On the quattro, the "nuts" are captive like the front subframe. When we did this on Acidburn's old TDi quattro project, we welded nuts to the back of plates and then welded the plates to the chassis. I believe the quattro has strengthening plates inside the chassis box section, or uses thicker steel stock as you will see this area on the fwd is not very structurally rigid. Therefore I recommend using some plate to strengthen the mounting points

Yep exactly my throught. Nut welded to a fairly thick plate and then welded to chassis. Fairly easy to do. May be able to chop this bit of chassis leg from the Quattro shell I'm getting the drivetrain from
