80 B4 Rear suspension camber bolt stuck

    Hi

i'm having a problem trying to separate Control arm and rear hub, (See attached image from forum)

cant seem to undo the eccentric bolt.. any tips or tricks for this one? Tried hitting it a few times With a large hammer, but no go..

the suspension have been stored for some time and most of the bolts are pretty much stuck, managed to get out most of them but this one is quite a PITA..

I rebuilt mine which appeared to have been untouched for 15 years and it took hours longer than it should have. An impact wrench is the answer, make sure you use it on the nut and hold the bolt still.

Got the nut loose from the bolt, but the bolt is still stuck within the bushing..so no special tricks to get this out, just push it out?

I've had to deal with a few of these, if it won't free up the quickest way to get it apart is to cut the head of the bolt off as well as the other end with the nut as tight to the arm as you dare with a 1mm cutting disc. The control arm can then be released from the hub with a bit of leverage applied each side of the adjuster and the assembly separated, there's still the remains of the adjuster to remove but at least one can now get at it and burn it out etc.

Drill one end of it so it has a dimple, then use an air chisel with a pointed bit. Has worked for me to get a bolt moving then you can hammer it out.

That can work with these bolts but not always, when I was working as a mechanic I'd try that technique first before moving on to more aggressive tactics. Not many folks have compressed air at home though, hence me suggesting the cutting method.

The other real feker we used to have to deal with on regular basis was A4/Passat etc front upper arm pinch bolts, they can be a complete pig, seen a less experienced lad snap one clean off which causes a great deal of hassle.
