    94 S4 - Reinstalling Strut.. WTF

About to install new Bilstein strut inserts and H&R springs..

Please tell me it does not all go back in the car in one piece?

    Eg.

Bilstein gland nut already done up, spring on top, bearing on top them mount and you some how muscle it all up in there and bolt it all back in?

The bilstein tool for doing up the gland nut does not fit through the opening in the strut area..

Someone please tell me im not mad or dumb and there is an easy way around this ?

    Jaychen,

Be sure to complete everything ie,spring, shock abs and top mount then install it back on the car with full assembly that's all.

you need the tools to compress the spring while mounting the top mount on the shock abs. that's all.it's straightforward mate.

I got it! you need to mount the stock top mount first when reinstall
the full strut assembly in the car, then replace the top mount with 2B
camber plate on the car again.it's the downside of running 2B plate.

you dont have any crunking noise from spherical bearing on 2B plate?
i removed the 2B plates due to noise problem.I replaced the bearings for 2 times
and it's last for couple months.finally i gave up.

My experience is that the strut is built up off the car and then 'offered' up to the hole at the top, under the wheel arch. Only the three smaller 17 nuts need to be tightened to hold the strut in place.

And then the larger central 22 nut and the central allen key can be checked to verify that the 22 nut is fully tightened.

The urS4/6 assembley is even heavier than the B4 S2 strut assembly which is no lightweight either.

With the C4 strut assembly, an assistant would eliminate a lot of cursing.

wow that's cool but i do understand the nature of
the spherical bearing is not designed to be working
(handle weight impacts from 4000lbs car) on
that orientation the teflon liner will be worn out
sooner or later in one day but who care .any
camber plates does that too.glad you sorted it Jaychen.
that's PITA to install the strut assembly alone.time to
                  wake up muscle.

Well I guess sooner or later I'll be removing it all again

I cant see how it works any differently than with the stock ones though? Do you just mean because the load is then not evenly distributed ? Thats what makes them wear quicker?

the speherical bearing itself is designed to be weight impacted horizontally not vertically iirc.

i contacted the aurora bearing USA inquired for the replacement for my 2B plates.some dealer

in USA replied me with the insights of the spherical bearing.you can purchase the replacement

from www.hrpworld.com if the one you have worn out in one day.it's cheaper than getting one from

                      2bennett's.

Wondering Is there any roads in Australia permits the people driving exceeded 100km/h Jaychen?I spent a

couple weeks in Melbourne and found all the road has Camera speeding and the fine in Australia for Speeding is

very expensive. My elder sister worked at Kerrygroup in Altona,VIC.That's such a peaceful and nice place.

haha are there any roads in australia that permit driving faster than 100km/hr.. no not really.

But there are many roads built where the speed limit should be at least 160+

just 10mins from my house there is a road that is brand new, 3 lanes (hardly any speeding cameras in QLD) and will easily allow almost any car to do a max speed test.

Thank you for the link, Pop.
