    Tech help needed please!

    Gents,

Having spent the last 2 weeks and a bucket load of cash on parts for the big re-furb and upgrade I need some help with the sizes for a complete powerflex bushes setup for a 96 ABY coupe.

The Ebay trader has asked for all relevant sizes so that he can issue the correct bushes. His trade site is:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/POWERFLEX-...:X:AAQ:GB:1123

Please could you furnish me with the correct sizes so that I can complete the project.

    Many thanks
    Sean

Take a look under your car and check which type of wishbone you have as there are two different kinds, forged and pressed steel.

You most likely have a pressed steel type of wishbone as it is a late model car but make sure to check.

As per the pictures attached, the picture with the wishbone on the car is an example of a forged wishbone on earlier model S2/RS2s. The one with two wishbones off the car are pressed steel wishbones.

The ebay price looks expensive. I purchased mine as superflex bushes (front and rear) from quattro corner and turned out much cheaper, just make sure you mention what type of wishbone you have

Thanks Rynaqui- little problem is that I am out of country and away from the car.

Perhaps you could let me know what sizes your bushes are- the ones you ordered recently?

      Cheers

I'm probably a lone voice here, but before anyone puts aluminium subframe bushes and plastic wishbones bushes they should consider what they want to use the car for. Track days or real world everyday driving on real roads.

Have a go in a similar car to the spec they are aiming for so that they will be sure they are happy with what they will end up with.

There is a gulf between a standard suspension and bushed 16" rimmed 225/50/16 car and a all aluminium and plastic bushed car on Bilstein with H&R, and 18" rims and 225/40/18 tyres.

There is a happy medium in between, which is dependent on the most frequent use the car is put to.

How often on real roads does one need to get around a corner on two wheels at 70mph ? As fast as the car will go given it's spec on the day can be rewarding enough. Getting the best out of a 1.0 lire Polo can still be fun.

I suppose my main point is be careful not to allow this forum get you carried away with building a car that is too extreme for what you really want / need.

Chipping an S2, with the Mark H mod, bigger front brakes, 17" rims with 225/45/17 tyres, HID's, NGK spark plugs, Recaro type bucket seats, with all the rest of the vital / relevant parts being very fresh or renewed with oem parts or similar, still makes for a very good and rewarding car.

Like I said I am a lone voice in the wilderness, waiting to be flamed.

I actually don't know the size and haven't fitted them yet

Mine had already come with polybushed wishbone bushes apparently, mountings still need doing though and I can't wait to have them done.

On the Maltese roads they aren't too bad truth be told, but it doesn't make for a comfortable ride really but it's decent

            Thanks for the input guys-
I have bought all the parts to refurb the car whilst upgrading the power to circa 400 BHP. The refurb will naturally consist of overhauling the subframes and tightening up the handling. This will be a street going- weekend car, which hopefully has a show car finish. To be a family heirloom for the future.
