By all accounts you can't actually buy a 'brand new' one anymore. Even the dealers only sell recon units so I'm told. I'm hoping that I can still do an easy fix by following all the sound advice above but like you I'm thinking worst case and will no doubt end up forking out big sheets for a recon unit.

I forked out for a recon one from QC about two years ago, and have never looked back.

Given you bad luck with the pumps to date, you could save yourself a lot of grief it you did the same, agreed not cheap, but just saying.........

Did you have similar issues as I've had with your previous pump(s)? Did you do the flushing and cleaning procedure that Alex detailed or did you just fit and put new fluid in?

Ill trough my 2 pence worth in:

I hate the location of the stock pump, gets in the way far to often. Whilst I'm converting to vacuum servo I'm going to go electric pump. Any recommendations for this?

Yes I have, No good unless you fit the hole system and ecu on a road car, a track base car you might no need to

I was thinking maybe I could map it using my VEMS

Using anything other than what it left the factory with isn't an option for me I'm afraid. I think I've pretty much reached the limit of the acceptable 'bolt on' upgrades on my mistress so I'm going to have to keep it simple. Besides, my lack of knowledge in this field makes the thought of fitting an electric pump to a system designed for a mechanical one uncomfortable for me.

Did somebody not suggest before that the cheap rebuilds failed as they are cleaned in acid, and if traces remain it eats the seals in short order?

If you asking myself, it's a while ago, and I never made a written note of it. Getting old myself. I think it was making a noise and didn't sound healthy, and as it is is a daily car, didn't want to mess about.

Never sent QC the old pump to get the deposit back, still 'lost' in my black hole of a garage. :roll eyes:

The item description on that ebay link says its a 'new' unit, not a recon one ....may be worth contacting them to confirm it ....?
