    Coupe Suspension Options

Just having a think about this...

I've run stock, stock with konis and now HnRs with Konis and I've just swapped some front HnRs on to the back to address the rear rideheight but this has gone too far.

Are KWs the only other complete option and Bilsteins the only other damper option?

Final option is DIY coilovers but as I can't weld, these would be a bit of a PITA.

    Any other options I've missed?

I've been playing around trying to get the ride height front and rear to sit properly and it would be nice to get some more spring rate at the rear... Unfortunately, it looks like I'm going to have to either design my own road springs or go coilovers. I just tried the HbR recommended front springs on the rear and it's a load of rubbish, as the close coils don't bind under the lower rear weight, so the springs are about half the rate for the first 30mm of travel

One more thing to look in to but I'm getting a bit bored of trying to do things on the cheap rather than just shell out £1k...

The good news is that the rest top mounts ate in, so I can get the rear brace bar in there

i'm not sure if i could lob £1k at the car for suspension, I think the basic setup is flawed unless you start bracing the chassis or stick a cage in to stiffen it up and get a decent platform to work from.

£1k is a lot of Ring laps of fun ;-)

Yeah, I'm edging towards V1s TBH.

The HnRs aren't bad but they don't sit quite right and the close bound coils are only just about touching at rest, leading to slightly odd behaviour on turn in. Sure you can drive around it but I expected a better product.

sat on the shelf in the garage, i went with avant fronts on my front and rear as a temp solution before a roadtrip and haven't changed them back since

Just another option to throw out there. If you want to just go for a change of springs, there is a company in Sheffield that can make coil springs to any spec.

They should have the original spring specification for our cars to go from (they did for my old MB quattro), but if you know what you want they can make them just as you want them.

Coil Springs Direct the only supplier of Original Entex Stock Springs. For all your spring enquiries & to take full advantage of our expertise, contact us now.

The blurb for "street lowering" springs on that website is hilarious. You should buy some from them just for their tongue in cheek effort.

Just mailed them to see what they can offer.

Another option is to use coilover springs (either custom designed or off the shelf) to achieve the correct setup, using stock legs and adaptors. This is an interesting idea but would be about £300, so ultimately, a little pointlesss

Wouldn't it be cheaper to hire a welder for an hour or so?

The real advantage of KW is their damper design, sure it is nice to get a new upright but I bet 90% of why KW is better comes from the damper (and matching it to the springs well). I've thought about contracting a shop to revalve/design a Bilstein based suspension for my car but by the time I get rid of the POS USDM swedged front struts and pay for an FCM Elite suspension I'd be past KW V3 territory.
