S6 stock springs - advice needed

I'm putting the S6 back to stock ride height (which is 1BE height in this case), but the price of OEM springs seems excessive. I've been quoted the following by TPS for the 1BE springs:

    4A0 411 105 R
    4A9 511 115 AK

Prices - Fronts would be £118.66 inc vat each (rrp £146.49)
Rears would be £137.17 inc vat each (rrp £169.34)

So looking at £512 all in.

Question is - can the same spec springs be sourced for less? I seem to remember a set of Eibach lowering springs being about half that price?

    Cheers
    Tom

Sounds about right for OEM springs from the main dealer. Clio 182 Cup springs weren't far off that when I asked Renault

Pattern parts are available but are unlikely to be quite right...

What springs are you currently using? I'm sure that someone here or in the US would be glad to swop stock springs for yours for the price of shipping. Everyone happy all around.

I haven't really thought about second-hand springs because my assumption was that if I'm going to go the trouble of fitting all of this (plus buying new shocks), then I might as well have brand new springs too.

But is that assumption correct? Is there any difference between a set of springs with say 150k miles on them and a brand new set?

Springs arent often worned out, talked to a local lad who has a Öhlins suspension shop. That what he told me. I have sport springs for a urs6 if you are interrested.

For some reason it just makes sense to me that a 1800kg+ car putting 100k+ miles on a set of springs would change their characteristics, but I could be completely wrong.

Which springs do you have? Are they the OEM ones for the 1BE suspension?

Yes they are OEM ones from Audi, bought from Germany second hand, they where installed on a S6 Avant with manual gearbox and then I put them on my S6 Saloon with manual gearbox, checked with Audi here in Sweden and they had 2 violet markings and one silver I belive, and they said it was to a S6 Saloon but with automatic gearbox. Ride height is good if you don´t like lowering springs, they are quite stiff.

Here are a picture of them installed with shot oem shocks.

Have changed to a Bilstein B12 kit so wont be needing them anymore.

Yea I totally agree with you but that was what he told me, the springs should not take the total amount of the weight that´s the job of the suspension shocks. But if they are bad and you drive for a long time I guess they wornes out eventually, They arent mint but I have a friend that can sandblast them and powdercoat them if you are interrested. Don´t really know what I want for them, have to think about that...

                      Goeran,
my car had that 1BE spring 2 violet dots and 1 silver dot IIRC.my car is UrS6 Automatic RHD.
I have had a couple set of spring on my car.first off,the automatic and manual box car has 40
kgs differences on the weight wise.I have purchased a set of new Eibach's.this spring is way
stiffer than 1BE and lower than 1BE approx 25mm max.I decided to let her go since i putted the
19's rims on the car and the gap between the tyres and fenders is way too much.i purchased
the violet H&R springs, this is almost the lowest spring on the C4 from my experiences(29828-1)
it's lower than 1BE approx 45-50mm.i couldn't drive with stock Avus 16".the car always
hits the every bumpstops but it's comfy spring,no harsch even softer than 1BE.Also the stance is perfect.
though H&R has been known the coils couldn't withstand the salts and snow well.we always see the H&R
spring broken but none of the Eibach.personally,i'm not worried since my country is mid 30-40' Deg C around year.
                      and no snows. ;-)

Some really good info there URSTom from wrath and popdemonic. I agree with you and Rusty if your rebuilding your suspension that it makes sense to use new 1BE audi springs. The prices you qouted are decent enough and yes a lot in totall but it's the best option if you want to enjoy using the car. You could always do what i might do with my Plus speck URS6 avant and that is clean your original springs up and re use them. I have rebuilt suspensions on 2 of previous Audis and can say using new stock oem audi replacement springs only increases ride height slightly because your old springs tend to settle as will new ones anyway.

                          springs

i have just fitted a set of eibach springs to my ur s4 v8 avant, i had oe sport springs on it before and there is no difference to the rear ride height and a half inch max drop to the front with eibachs on , bought from cr enterprises £250,
putting the sports on my v8 saloon as it looks like a rally car on its standard set up.
