    Small/large chassie?

Whilst windowshopping on 034-motorsport and bookmarking some parts for my upcoming project. I saw the term "small chassie" several times.

I do faintly remember hearing this before, but never really looked in to it.
So, what makes a small/large chassie?

They use it to distinguish chassis type, "B series" vs "C series". Basically B is small, C is large. So B2/B3/CQ/B4 are all small. C2/C3/C4 = Large.

not a very accurate way to do it, but they do it because many of the b series parts cross over to other b series cars. IE top mounts, or subframe bushings, ect. Same goes for the C series.

audi 100/ 200/d11/c4 = big chassi.... from 1984-1997..... the engine, tranny fill fit right in,also in small chassi; the rear end( diff) will not...

Sorry to be pedantic but the word is "Chassis", not "chassie" or "chassi".

As for the B2/B3/B4 being small, they are actually medium.

            Audi 50, A2 and A3 = small.

More info about the small, medium, large and luxury sized Audis is found here:

The OP said nothing about quattro.

                And I *am* correct.

With that same logic you are not correct. The OP asked about what 034 calls small/large. Sorry Dave, wrong. 034 is calling 80/90 small, 100/a6/s4/s6 large.

034 calls a lot of **** wrong, as in this case.

It's irrelevant if 034 might be wrong. If both I and 034 are talking about the same chassiS, using the same name, the answers to my questions about it would still be correct.

BUT now that someone has pointed it out, are we strictly talking quattro's here, or does the term apply to FWD models aswell?
i.e would a "small chassis" tierod for exampel fit an FWD-car?

Advice: Stop talking "small" and "large". Talk B3 or B4 or C4, D2, as required. Then there is no confusion.

In 034's defense (I am feeling generous), North America didn't get any Audi 50s or VW Polos so "small" is relative to the C3/C4 Audi 100/A6s, etc in 034's mind. They need to get out (in the world) more and not be so NAmerican-centric.

I usually do since I didnt even know the "small/large" difference since this post.
But once again, totally irrelevant right now since we're partially talking about 034.

Wrong designation or not, would an 034 "small frame"-marketed whatever-part fit both the Q and FWD model for said chassiS?
