    Coupe quattro 5x112 conversions

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum but not to Audis

I live in the United States and I'm picking up a 1990 CQ at the end of the week. One of the first upgrades I'd like to perform is the hub conversion. I've seen $$$europrice$$$ rediculous kit, and I'm staying far away. I'm probably going to end up using used UrS4 front hubs (and I guess spacers for the caliper carriers???) and rotors. I have found plenty of info on the UrS4 front hubs info, but what about the back? What hubs and rotors do I use for the rear of my CQ? Any help is appreciated.

I hope nobody takes offence to my dislike of europrice, but they are prohibitively expensive. I want to do it right the first time, but I'll do it right and on my budget, too.

Hey, you do what you have to do. I got my hubs/rotors from Europrice. Their prices are what the market dictates...only VAGparts.com could get you hubs for less $$, but after shipping, it wouldn't be much of a difference. Anyway, I believe you would need to grind down the back of the UrS4 front hubs because they are 2-3mm longer then the S2 hubs. I can't remember about the back ones...possibly B5 A4 quattro. I do know that the front rotors are exclusive to the S2, while the rear rotors are cross-referenced with the B6 A4 quattro rears. You could redrill your current rotors because the rotor is held in place by the clamping force of the wheel and hub, but 4x108 and 5x112 are interfering bolt patterns....this means that one hole would overlap another causing an ovalized bolt hole in the rotor. It can be tricky, but many people do it without a hitch. I simply bought B6 A4 rear rotors and upgraded the front rotors and calipers (996 calipers and Euro A8 rotors with RS2 caliper carrier). Don't forget that you'll need 5x112 wheels and be prepared with 4 new wheel bearings.

Actually, from what I saw on urs4.com the UrS4 hubs are shorter than the S2... hmmmm... The B5 hubs in the rear might be an idea, I'll have to check that out. Basically I want to do this the hard way, as the easy way is far out of my reach. Can anyone else with experience with the UrS4 hubs chime in?

Word of advice from the peanut gallery here?.....

Why don't you make sure the CQ is in good to perfect running order before you indulge into something as expensive and time consuming as a hub change? I don't say this idly. Too many new CQ owners here in the States take for granted that the car they just purchased is in perfect running order and they start doing radical changes before they are faced with an unexpected failure and expense of replacing a part. I'm already hearing of one new owner who may have to replace a PS pump! And another who was told that the car was perfect, now finds after a month of ownership he needs 4 new Hitachi injectors!! All I'm saying is make sure the car is in at least a decent running condition so you can even appreciate the hub mod. You don't want to go thru all the expense and time just too watch it sit and collect dust because something went bust after you finished the mod and don't have the time, expertise or moolah to fix it. Been there, done that.

I have 5 new LS1 injectors, waiting for my fuel rail adaptors (even thought the Hitachis on the car aren't very old, less than 2 years) and here's an incomplete list of the things the p/o has done recently:

Brake accumulator, master cylinder, braided steel lines, Bilstein shocks, H&R springs, front control arm bushings, ball joints, upper strut bearings, wheel bearings, steering rack, radiator, thermostat, fan switch, heater hose, battery, alternator, intake, custom 2.5” exhaust, combination switch/stalk switches...

I think he mentioned something about the water pump and timing belt done not too long ago, but I can't remember. Needless to say, the car is in excellent running condition.

            Hi,
I am the person who gave this picture showing the comparison between the Ur front hub with the coupe hub to the UrS4 web site.

And you are right the hub is shorter, which moves the rotor inboard. This causes other problems. In order to use the, 996 or 993tt caliper with the 314x30 or 323x30 A8 rotor, you would have to make up your own caliper carrier. Having you own caliper carrier made would more than negate the difference in cost of the S2 rotors.

When you use the S2 hubs you can use the off the shelf RS2 carrier which will work with the above mentioned rotors can caliper.

These are the pieces needed for upgrading a coupe from brake system to use Porsche 996 brakes. This model caliper comes on two different cars, the Porsche 996 or the Boxster S. The 996 brakes are black and the Boxster S brakes are red. It seems that you can get these calipers in silver...

Now my suggestion is to find a breaker in Europe who will supply you with the hubs, with or without hub carriers, and buy them used. This is what I did. The cost including shipping was half of new.

You can use the late rear A4 rotor not hub. Re read what was written above in the thread.

              jettasdaddy, you say > I have 5 new LS1 injectors<...

Could you so kind as to clarify your statement? What are LS1's and are they close to the specs of the Hitachis? If so you have probably solved the great question that all CQ 20V owners who have aspired to go over to a different fuel injector other than the accursed Hitachis. Are they Bosch styled injectors that others have tried to figures out? Like me for instance!
Can you give some details and which adapters are you gonna use? Patrick Carliers from Belgium? The guys at VW Vortex would love to hear what you have discovered!

They want 600USD for their 20V kit, and they grind off the Bosch injector numbers so you have to buy replacements through them. They want an arm for the cost of the replacement injector.

Oh I'm familiar with Marren's little setup....who do you think put them up to it?

Who's fuel rail do you think they used to develop the setup? Are you aware that they have jacked the price of their mod recently knowing that Hitachi injectors are becoming scarce and or expensive, and that rebuilds are not the answer. They will corner the market soon. 90quattrocoupe is dead on in his comments too.

Well, I just ran across this site for injectors recently and am looking at less expensive alternatives. As far as I know, they use the factory fuel rail. I did not know about "grinding off" the Bosch P/N#'s. The trick would be to come up with the Bosch P/N & then the insert/adapter. Any ideas?

Tell the truth Chris this has been a running thread on VWVortex and AudiWorld Forums. If you go to the VWVortex Forum you will find that Patrick Carlier has already developed a better adapter than Marrens. In fact I have a set sitting in my garage, just waiting to find out which Bosch injector Marren is using but those that have the setup are not willing to tell.
That's why when I saw Jettas post I thought he had made the break thru.

The injectors are 2003-ish Chevrolet LS1 injectors (the LS1 came in the Corvette, Camaro, Firebird) Bosch # 0 280 155 931, GM #12561462. They flow 28lbs at 3 bar and 32 lbs at 4 bar, just like the Hitachis. They are high-impedance injectors (high Z) so you must remove the resistor pack from the car. Ask Billzcat about that, as I haven't had the pleasure of surgically removing it yet. These with adaptors shoud work awesome. You can find all kinds of remanufacturers of these injectors and get them matched and flowed for very little money (around $20 to $25 each, maybe a little more). Hope this helps!
