    80 Quattro Stiffness

    Afternoon all.

As you all know, coilovers are a pain to get hold of and when you do find them they cost the earth ! ..

My saloon has been lowered by a previous owner, I'm guessing at 60mm .. I'd like to go a bit lower, but mainly I want to stiffen the ride.

I'm going to be doing top mounts soon and as I'm having the struts out.. I may aswell address the issue.

What would people suggest ? I want to keep as much comfort as possible but eliminate the body roll as much as I can. I'll also be intending to do subframe and roll bar bushes at a later date, but for the time being just want to address the shocks/springs.

What is going to be the easiest/cheapest solution ? Uprated/stiffer shocks ? Lower/stiffer springs ?

What do people recommend I.e brand ? Mm of drop ? Stiffness ratings etc ..

    Thanks

    Sam

Haven't got that kind of money I'm afraid mate, I've seen some HSD's for £900 brand new. I can't afford anywhere near that I'm afraid. Thanks

Pos sub 500 quid, you'll have to do some poking around on the net.

That's more in the ball park I'm thinking, even that is a stretch. Failing that, what are my other options ?

If you're happy with the height of your existing springs, and just want less roll, while keeping the comfort, consider adjustable (off the car), Koni shocks ( set them to almost full stiffness ), or Bilstein shocks.

As you're on a budget, leave springs and shocks as is and fit uprated anti roll bars.

                  RS2 on the front.

Neuspeed one on the rear. The one that is a for a B5 Avant will fit perfectly. From Awesome GTI.

I presume you must be on 17" or 16" rims ?

If it was me in your shoes, I'd pick 225/50/16 tyres with 16" Avus rims and the anti roll bars.

Easy enough to go to 5 x 112 hubs. Have machine shop drill the existing front hubs and discs to 5 x 112, and get new or second hand rear discs from an early B5 A4. Job done for small money.

This is a root I'm interested in, however can you use S2 front hubs and B5 rear assembly and use B5 coilovers ? Or had I tea something wrong in the past ? .. I'm on 17" with 215 45's ATM.

However the past couple of days it's felt really vague steering wise on the front, very understeery when going round right hand bends... I've got a fair amount of work to do to get it feeling right I think. Either way !! .. I'm liking the idea of eventually doing a 5 stud conversion as there is a much bigger choice of wheels etc.

                    Thanks

Would like to revive this quickly ! .. If no replies I'll post a new subject.

I'm aware that the saloon quattro's share a lot of components with the early b5 avant quattro's ...

Question is .. If I was to buy a set of b5 avant Quattro coilovers .. How hard would it be to fit ?

Not really the B5 front end is effectively double wishbone as opposed McPherson strut so their very different.

Damn .. I know a lot of you dot approve but I want to go low .. I doubt I'll get that with springs and shocks, aswell as the stiffness
