S6 AAN - anyone knows a good replacement for original shocks?

    Hi everyone!
For my Audi S6 AAN Avant with the sport-type suspension (and also with climate and automatic transmission) I need new front shock absorbers. The new part-no. for them would be 4A0 413 031 L.
I ordered them using that number despite of their horrifying price, however the delivery has been delayed for over 2 months now.
So now I am about to cancel this order and get some good alternative instead, hoping that I am not the first one in the world to have this problem.
So please advise which shocks by what manufacturer could be a good replacement for the stock 4A0 413 031 L type?
    Many thanks in advance!

Each brand has multiple shocks types suitable for different vehicles. Even within the C4 family there are multiple types of original shocks for different C4 variants. So what I need to know is what particular shocks type (order no. of a aftermarket brand) would be the best match for the original shocks I specified above. "Just take any Bilstein or any other aftermarket brand" does not answer my question, sorry.

Boge is oem. Sachs should also be a good replacement.

Bilstein's web site should tell you the different types of shocks they make.

Standard or sports. e.g. something like B6 and B8s.

Recently got a quote from my local factors of €145.00 each for Bilsteins.

Hope that helps a bit. :roll eyes:

Others should be much more informative.

...which gives the following 2 options:
            Bilstein B8 Sprint, part-no. 34-003695,
            and
            KYB Ultra SR, part-no. 376001.

That´s already something, thanks a lot! However for KYB there is no indication that it is compatible with the "sport" suspension option. So Bilstein would be the preference, I guess?

As far as I know, the Boge official catalogue has no 100% match for the original 4A0 413 031 L part no. - could be due to some agreement between them and VWAudi.
Now that you mentioned Sachs - which type exactly?
              Thanx.

I have heard that B8's are very good, not cheap, but norhing is on these cars. In my opinion you can't really go wrong with either, KYB or Bilstein.

Regarding KYB, part-no. 376001 will be sport suspension, because I also have 2.6 C4, and front shocks are the same between normal 100 and S4 (in my case), but rear shocks are different. For S4 part nr is 351020 but for 100 it's 351018.

                Hope it helps.

Then I will probably choose the B8s, for I am not yet familiar with the KYB brand and do not necessarily want to start testing new brands right now. Thanks for your helpful inputs!

While you might think you have a sport suspension that justifies the Bilstein B8s, which are designed for "sport suspensions", you would be wrong. The Audi 1BE sport suspension on an UrS4/S6 is only about 19 mm lower than the non-sport 1BA suspension. The Bilstein B6 (Heavy Duty) shocks would likely work as well or better than the B8s with the 1BE suspension.

The B8s were meant for aftermarket lowering suspensions, e.g Eibachs and H&Rs, that lowered the suspension in the 25 mm to 30 mm range.

I fitted bilstein to the front with the factory sport springs, can't remember the part no, but they weren't the heavy duty ones, you can feel every bump on the road but not harsh at all, the faster you go the better they feel. Much better than the standard ones but they were 100k old.

However the shocks catalogue mentioned in one of the previous posts indicates the B8s - and not the B6s - as being the only "right" replacement for the original shocks: both for the "standard" and the "sport" stock suspension options of my car.
May I ask you for a prooflink substantiating your opinion? It is not that I an questioning it, but now I just have two contradictory views and will have to make my choice somehow. Thanks!

UrS4boy , thanks for the input! What it basically says is that both B6s and B8s would work for C4-100. However I found no specific reference to C4-S4AAN or -S6AAN there. Do I read smth wrong?
