    Steering rack recon??

I've got an ABY rack ready to replace the leaky one on my 3B, given how much grief it's going to be to change I figure it would make sense to get it recondition or at the very least inspected first.

Anyone got any recommendations for a relevant company?

Not sure mate, didn't see that thread will have a poke around on his old threads

To be honest though I'm pretty short of spare time for the next couple of weeks and just want to assemble all the bit's I need to blitz a few job's in the space of a long weekend.

Sorry for the slow reply, went away unexpectedly first thing on Sat morning and only got back last night, your top mounts are in the post and should be with you tomorrow.

Yes i did really nice job actually. still nice and dry today.

if you want it rebuilt with new seals I'd happily do another. I've still got all the tools for seal insertion too.

I'd definitely get a recon'd one checked out, mine just had one fitted last week and the seal blew the first time it was turned full-lock causing no end of hassle!

Completely agree - i took mine to a place in Birmingham to get tested before i fitted it.

from here http://www.steering-racks.co.uk/ if i remember correctly. didn't cost much and worth the check. They said they'd seen Steering racks fire the rack out when put under pressure...and when thats about 1000psi it comes out pretty dam quick!

many times, its the rack tubin/ frame who are worn out, from inside, where the piston are goin .... alots of scratches an so on.... i would prefer a NEW or from a deasent firm...its more expencive, but less hastle...

Mate, that's a cracking offer which I'd like to take you up on as you have the tools required, drop me a PM and we can agree remuneration.

Make sure you use a genuine ZF seal kit - many failures I am convinced are due to poor quality generic seals

^^ this place sells ZF seal kits...I've not used the company before so can't comment on quality or service TBH. The prices seem to be reasonable enough though...
