    Suspension compatibility across the variants

    Hi all,
I hope someone can shed some light on this matter. I have done a quick search, but I'm still not 100% sure.

I'm currently working on something for my cabrio which in turn should help other members on here too.

I want to know if the any of the A80 models be it coupe, avant, saloon, typ 89 or B4 etc share the same suspension as the cabriolet models.

From what I have found so far is that the coupe typ 89 uses exactly the same setup as the cabriolet or vice versa. Is this correct?

Can someone confirm this for sure please?

Thanks in advance for your help.

what are you need.. the spring, and shock setup or swaybars?? I will think the old rubber bushings around in the front and rear are shoot too.. together the bad shockasorber, springs and rubber bushings, make the car feel like a boat in water...

      Hi Caterpillar,
I just want to know if shocks and springs (mainly shocks) are compatible?

If they are, then this increases the options for aftermarket suspension kits.

      Thanks
      Yaz

        According to Kate
The cabriolet (92-00) uses same springs as coupe non quattro (89>96) saloon 1990 > 1992 (b3)
The V6 coupe / cab use front shocks 8G0413503B

The rear shocks have a different part number but that doesnt mean they are different.
Coupe rear shock 895513031D vs vs Cab rear shock 8G0513031C

          Hi Eric,
Thanks for this info, so the coupe setup will fit on a cab right?

in this forum, people may have the org catalog in pc... some are eployed by audi, so i think you have to try the setup with PN... have a closer look in the bushings area too.. and the top baering/ rubber in top of the shock in front end... change the lot, and you does have a "new" car...

The front setup on the later V6 cabs (ellipsoid headlight models) has the same setup has the ABY S2, except the hubs are 4x108. the older and smaller engine sized variants have the same setup as the lower spec coupes.

As for the rears I believe they are bespoke to the cabs but I'm not 100% certain as its possible the 2wd coupes "might" be similar.

This is what I'm unsure about... I am fairly certain the fronts are the same.

Rear springs are different on a cabrio (or at least my v6 cab) I don't think any other variant uses them. I believe this is because the top mounts on the rear are further inboard due to the roof, and the whole assembly is significantly longer. Fronts are the same as any other B4.

This does make sense, so basically full setup won't fit then?

This is a great thread Yaz.We can all learn something important here.I hope more information comes out.

I particularly found interesting the Ellipsoidal headlamp later V6 cabriolets had the S2 front suspension set up just the 4 x 108 hub being different. Now i know why i like our 2.8 cabriolet,it feels quite different to my 80 2.6 V6 avant. As ever more research is needed perhaps someone putting up a photo of side by side comparisons.I could photograph a complete shock spring setup from A 90 2.3 20V 7A if you want.Just let me know.
