    Subframe bush removal

I had a look at doing this yesterday, with the subframe on the car to save removing it on my own. Any tools that are available to remove the bushes?

Won't be easy with the sub frame on the car.

One of the best options I found was to find a small length of tube that is just wider than the sub frame bush. Put a bracket with a bolt hole across the top of the tube. put a long bolt through the sub frame bush and through the bracket and tighten until the bolt pulls the bush through and out.

Ideally you'd remove the sub frame and use a press. Removing the sub frame on your own isn't too difficult. You just need a couple of jacks.

    Good luck!

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.

i burned and i also hole-sawed them out if smoke bothers you.

then hammer the thin sleeve out.

Short length of 3inch tube, 19mm,ish sized socket, BIG bench vice+long ally tube on handle, a buddy to steady tube or socket or frame or close vice unless you are the octopus man or can operate the handle with your chin

I have only done my typ85.90 ones and they came out quick and in one piece but required a huge amount of force

Burning out old bushes is the easiest method I have used works well for wishbone bushes as well.

I helped Campbell above do his and I did mine alone with a hole saw to cut the rubber around the inner tube then hacksawed the outer sleeve in two places about 10mm apart then hammer and drift out no bother. Did all 8 of mine this way and after 2nd its pretty quick.

There is an Audi tool for doing them on the car.

More trouble than it's worth as you still need to remove the bolt to fit the tool

What size hole saw was required? I'm also looking to do front subframe bushes, might give that a try first.

I think I used a 28mm hole saw. Just one that is bigger than the centre tube but fits inside the outer sleeve.

Any info on the tool, Mike?

                              Edit:- Tool 3301 = Laser 4748

I have a home made tool that I will modify, as it basically does the same job but wanted to see if there was anything 'better'.

                              Cheers
