    ps pipe restrictor

Does anyone know if the Pas pump to bomb pipe has a restrictor inside it?or is it only one of the pipes that's goes to the rack which has it?thinking of having pirtek remake a leaking pipe but read some people have had issues on ps pipes which have restrictors In place from factory

Certainly for the pump to rack hose, the restrictor is a myth mate, there is no restrictor in the PAS hose to the rack - I cut one open to find out!
The lump in the middle that everyone thinks is a restrictor is a swaged support where it hooks into the retainer so it doesn't deform the hose. Maybe the bomb hose has one.

Not sure about the pump to bomb hose, but in the rack hose there is a perforated plastic inner tube inside which acts as a suppressor and you need to reuse that. If you cut the ferrules off the ends of your existing hose you can pull this out and reuse it. Make sure the new hose is exactly the same length as the old one, and the suppressor goes right to the ends of the new hose, as per the OEM one otherwise you will have noisy PAS. Not sure if that is the case with the bomb hose, as there is no real flow through that circuit. If you cut the ferrules off you can disassemble it to find out

There is certainly a solid pipe like lump inside the hose from the pump to the bomb. Whether it is a restrictor or not I dont know but i had a new one made 4 or 5 months back without the 'restrictor' in it and its acting perfectly well on my car...

The only restrictors I've seen are the pin prick holes in the banjos. They have a filter and then a 1mm or smaller hole in them, I assume to regulate pressure.

                  Error404....

On my ADU pump to rack hose there was a restrictor and it was'nt the lump middle part.

there's a solid plastic withish pipe (similar to the type used on compressed air layouts) this inside pipe has a solid (brass) part crimped in the middle lump area plus some holes on the pipe itself and a restrictor in the form of a brass/copper bullet kind of shape in the end on the rack junction side the "bullet" sits then partly inside the solid part of the pipe with the banjo that joins with the rack.

I replicated the pipe refitting the "bullet" the original plastic pipe in the right length in the new hose but.... it whines like hell
New original hose (costy) and no whines.

Don't know (lucky so far) about the bomb hose though

Interesting Stefano I did not see the "bullet" you're describing in the coupe quattro hose I cut up. I have another damaged hose I might chop it up to have a look again
The type of hose used has an effect on noise, I was told that generic wire reinforced hydraulic hose has a different construction to OEM type steering hose which uses composite reinforcement. IIRC there is a DIN number on the OEM hose.

I will be replacing the flexible part of my high pressure PAS line from pump to rack soon, as it has started to weep.
Can anyone state the DIN number or specification for the high pressure hose to replace it with? If not, does anyone from previous experience know what NOT to use??
Also, can anyone give me the dimensions of the O ring under my X plug which is weeping too? I don't have time to order OE before our Irish meet on the 26th.

you need to buy the x plug and o ring together from Audi, otherwise they seem to always fail BTDT...
