Poing tinkle tinkle s6!

That's the sound the little tiny spring cap makes when it fires up out of the pas relief valve cap and falls down the front of the engine!!!!

I'm so cross with myself I resolve to find it...

However, just in case.. Has anyone got a spare one or an old pas pump for dismantling please?

If i have lost that tiny cap, and put the thing back together without it..

Does anyone know what that cap does. One theory is it just caps the spring to stop the spring jiggling around inside the cap of the big 16mm cross cap.
A jiggling spring being vorsprung undesirable.

Does anyone know if that tiny cap did anything that I couldnt run the car with for a period till i find a spare?

I think you'll find the pump very noisy without the cap you describe, they work on quite fine tolerances and I suspect the spring tension is critical.

I may be wrong but I personally I wouldn't be happy running the pump with it missing,

Cheers for the advice.
The PAS system was full of ATF so was super sticky anyway and leaking. I have flushed it and put proper PAS fluid in and was resealing the leaking o-ring.
I cant find the tiny cap thing and dont have another option short term till I find a replacement cap or pump (cap preferably). I may have no other choice.
I'll not forget that tinkle noise as the bloody thing pinged its way down the front of the engine. Its in their somewhere!

It might be, I have to admit, I didnt get a good look at it as it flew off before I saw it. But yes, the spring that sticks up when you take the big cross cover off had a cap and It could be this. Whats the one in the picture off please?

Very funny, thats the same noise I got when I dropped the cam cover bolts (all 4) down the side of my engine.... never saw them again !
