P.a.s whine & loud groans on new pump

hi, I have an issue I cant solve with noisy power steering. A good second hand pump has been fitted but it still deep groans, whines and can feel vibration on steering wheel when turning. When I bought the car the pump to rack hose was shot so I had one made at hydraulic shop. Correct fluid in there but still moans.

I have done search but no definitive answers, its doing my sweede in now. Brakes are fine just steering noise issue. Also when I first start car steering is a bit lumpy / notchy, hard to explain. The noise is pretty annoying as you can hear it heavily above engine noise.

Is it down to the fact I have had a custom hose made up thats allowing too much or too little flow?
    cheers

    This is your problem.
The PAS hose is more complex than just a normal hydraulic hose. There is a perforated plastic damper inside it, and also the type of hose itself is specific to PAS systems. All of this works to attenuate that whine & vibration you are hearing. Sounds like its too late to do it properly with your hose so you'll probably need to get a replacement now.

Im not so sure Alex.... I know this is a much discussed subject on the forum however and I know most people who have had hoses made at hydraulic shops have had issues but im fairly sure a few havent had issues. Me for one. I have had a hydraulic shop make a hose up for me with 2 new ends and its fine on my car with n o groans, rattles, squeaks etc. Maybe i got lucky with the shop but who knows. Just sharing my experience on this subject is all

Yeah it is possible of course to do it, if you know what you are doing
You need to reuse the complete original internal damper and just replace the hose with the right material. No magic required.

There ya go... I havent got a clue what was re-used and what wasnt. I just know I asked for a new hose made to be like my old one and got one and it works lol.

Get them to remake the hose 100% as per original including using the correct DIN hose and you should not have an issue. They need to carefully cut the ferrules off and take the hose apart carefully so as not to damage the parts you need to reuse.

I had exactly the same issue with mine.
I know a man from the local Caterpillar Workshop, and he made one for me. From 1st start up it whined, and TBH I thought the noise was from the pump (which I initially thought I had damaged whilst priming from dry), but I had no probs with PAS or brakes.
It lasted (from memory) best part of a year, but burst without warning, some distance from home.
I had difficulty believing that an Audi PAS pump can deliver sufficient pressure to burst an Earthmover pipe, but it happened not once, but twice as the second pipe I had made by the same chap then let Michael down.

Sorry, Buddy, but if you take my advice, you'll need to get an OE one.
