could need help for getting the power steering to work

    Hallo

    Audi s2 1991 coupe

I could need help for getting the power steering to work.

    History:
I have rebuild the car and now time for start up. I notes the pas pump working when starting the car but after some time it stop working.
I did put in red castrol hydraulic oil and this is not good.

I change the power steering pump and also I put in green LHM+ liquid. It worked fine for 10 min of running and the pump getting hot and stop making pressure at idle.
I stop the car and and find some oem Audi liquid G00 4000.
My problem is that the pump is getting very hot and the oil almost boileding.
The power steering is good when the car is cold but the pump is a bit noisy.
I do not think it is the pump there is the problem but somthing else.

Why is the oil getting so hot?

    Any help will be grateful

    Thank you
    Peter

How does your steering rack and lines look? Also it is possible to have a faulty brand new pump.
It's a happened to me a couple times before.

      power steering getting hot

Hi and thanks for the reply.

The hoses are cleaned by air and power rack looks fine and it all worked nice before desasambling the car.

To day I started the car and everything is good until power steering getting hot. The pump is noisy and almost no power at idle but when I speed up I have power steering.

When the car I cold I can turn the wheels (8,5”) by one finger when the car not moving as I remember I could not do that before. Can you guys do that? Or is it over steering somehow.
I have a steering rack from a s2 advant 1995 and it is not a servo tronic but is there any technical problems installing this?

I do not like to remove the power steering rack but what do you think will be the best way of solving the problem.

Why is it getting so hot. A guy told me today that if there is a small leak inside some ware the oil will get hot and maybe it is the same fore the pump?

      Any help will be helpful.

      Thanks
      Peter

It sounds like the pump is overloaded. This could be a restriction in the pipes or maybe a fault in the rack. Is the brake bomb system working?

I don't know if this can make it overheat - but do you have the harmonica metal tube (cooling hose) in front of the radiator installed?
