No worries David all good here and a good debate is what it should be about to flesh it all out. I tend to anylise stuff in order to understand the ins and outs and put that down to my love of Design and Technology from my college days.If i read your piece right i had no idea the pas pump and the brake bomb are the same as S2. If thats the case then it would appear a no brainer from my recollections of driving several S2 avants. All felt good in that car.

Nope, there is virtually zero trail on these cars which is why there is ****-all steering feel, the self-centering moment is so pathetic I doubt you would even notice a difference.

The higher pressure pump gives more ultimate power for assistance. So we have an advantage over the s2 there. Again with a stock torsion bar the control valve will open and close at the same steering input load and the pump will be asked to do more work than it is now. At some point it will max out but I think that there is loads of extra capacity there.

As above changing the steering ratio by a relatively small percentage won't have a noticeable effect on the steering weight on our cars, due to the rest of the geometry. Even if it did, its easy to fix - you could always run a slightly smaller pulley which would give you more flow at idle speed, for parking. If you are going to trouble of making the ratio lower, I really recommend using a stiffer torsion bar - it will make the car a lot more positive to drive. I have BTDT with all of this

I'd be interested in a LHD rack.
