    Impending Rear Subframe Overhaul.

Rear subframe on my B3 CQ(7A) doesn't look good.
I have a VERY GOOD B2 CQ rear subframe, it has no brackets for the anti-roll-bar though. I'm thinking this would be the best time to add a better/thicker A-R-B.......but not necessarily by grafting the B3 brackets(as they're super rusty) to the B2 subframe???
    Anyone else done similar??
Might a front roll bar from a 1.6 80 be a good bet? Not wanting the rear super solid but would like a bit less understeer.

Ideas and pointing me in the right direction people!!

    Thanks.

Common coupe rear anti roll bar upgrades

      Whiteline adjustable.

Any long (later) droplink front arb on the rear, rear struts need swapped side to side, may have to tweak droplinks.

Short (early) droplink front arb on the rear, you need wishbones with arb drop link mounts in them. (you can also modify a long drop link to work with the early front arb)

Check the track rod mounts are in the same location on both subframes or you will need to fit new track rods. (there are longer and shorter track rods depending on the location of the mount on the subframe)

Front ARB on the rear is a fun mod, makes it easier to rotate the car.

Interesting, is the rear ARB actually needed as it was never fitted to 10v B3 90 quattros or coupes and it was deleted on the ur when they started RHD deliveries. Having owned both a 10v and 20v 90 quattro B3 and a ur and thrown all 3 around on the public highway I could not really feel any difference (other that the extra power of the 20v 90/10v ur engines)

I assume the ARB came with the 20v as it had slightly lower sports suspension as standard (well on my b3 1991 90 quattro 20v it did)

Andy, thanks for all that. Sods law I've allready ordered new track-rods, I'll bet the mounts are in different places

Who knows?? All I know is I prefer over-steer to under-steer!

All the above is food for thought, plenty time before I take the back end to bits though.

          Keep it coming!

John you will notice a huge difference when you've completed this job I certainly noticed in my Coupe I know for my rear subframe I didn't have the brackets for the anti rollbar so Autobahn welded them on and did a great job and new bushes all round also

Do you know what roll-bar they used and any info on new bracketry and where to get would be very useful?

Mark, I'm going to be getting the end result(after ARB brackets welded on) galvanized like I did to the front one. That one in the link doesn't have ARB brackets either.
                        Price is a bit fancy?!....yes/no.

ARB bolts to the lower edge of the subframe underneath where the track control arms bolt on..........basically the same as the front one.
