A6 c4 AEL converted to coilovers sleeves

    So.. Can it be done?

I'm now considering having the front standard AEL QUATTRO struts converted to coilovers with a sleeve.

Has anyone done this to the standard suspension before?

Are the needed parts available? & what would be needed for the top perch?

Anyway of using the standard top mounts?

Trying to keep cost down as much as possible, so will also want to keep the original dampers.

As for springs, id like close to original ride quality maybe a 'little' firmer.. & also want to run at about the same ride height as stock AEL quattro. (so a little lower than FWD models)

Why not just use UrS6 oem springs and oem spec shocks given your stated aim above ?

    Just sayin.............

      Good question..

Because the lower spring perch on one of my standard AEL quattro struts has rusted through and collapsed, and is now rubbing against the tire.

Also, the opposite side is rusted too and has even started to hole.

So I'm just considering my options. Either I get replacement struts, which will also need new bearings. OR I convert the broken struts to sleeved coilovers which saves me replacing bearings and also gives me s possible upgrade path in the future.

Either way, my struts as they stand are useless with a collapsed perch.

Plus, converting to a sleeved coilovers might even alow my wheels to fit without using spacers.

          Thanks for the reply.

Await photos of whichever you do, particular so the diy coiler route.

I'd be more inclined to go the UrS6 cast offs from someone's parted UrS6. As it is less hassle but that's just me, at my age, ability. You'd also get the oem UrS6 brakes which while not a nice looking as Porsche work very well on a UrS6.

oem brakes on an S2 do need to be upgraded.

Assuming the wheel bearings do need to be done, then it will allow the struts to be 'blasted' and either powder coated or Por'ed, also assuming the C4 is a keeper.

Just my own tuppence from my stand point, which will naturally not be the same as yours.

          Kind regards.
